If a sale has closed, how long should you wait for payment before relisting the item?

I think you can raise a non-paying bidder claim with ebay after 8 days, or request to cancel the sale for non-payment after the same period of time, should be on the FAQ's somewhere (I had to do this about a year ago)

Yep, make sure you raise the non payment thing otherwise you still get charged listing fees. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave bad feedback, the transaction just gets cancelled.

On an item I auctioned recently the winning bidder took the time to let me know his wife had just given birth, so payment might be delayed, of course it would have taken just as long to make a payment via PayPal but there you go. After a month or more I finally gave up and submitted the non payment thing and got my listing fee back.

It can't hurt to wait a week or so, after all some people don't have constant internet access (although if you're bidding why not pay immediately?!)

I only wait the minimum now and put in the non payment claim. Like tonyd I've had all the excuses for not paying, dead relatives etc, not one of them has payed in the end.

Assuming you're taking paypal only and don't have to wait for payment through the postal service?

Day or two for buyers to paypal me, then they get the invoice sent to them as a reminder. Then few more days ntil the "are you going to pay me, I don't mind if there's a delay but let me know" message, then payment not received initiated with eBay.

Maybe they're trying to wait 'til payday at end of the month before paypaling you, especially if they've no slush funds in PP.

I'm alright thanks Chris, have you still got the same mobile number? I'm hoping to get over your way of the world before too long with the bike, will give you a call when I do.
