Aw c'mon. Aberdonians are well known for their sharing and generous nature.

Heard of a family trying to check in at Crieff Hydro on Wednesday an hour before lockdown being sent home. I’d imagine if you book a hotel then give your address as Aberdeen you will be sent packing.

Re Poly’s comments on offshore workers travelling home a lot of them are travelling under safe passage. That is their travel both ways is laid on avoiding public transport so should ensure the worker gets back home safely with minimal contact.

so why does the oil company’s responsibility end when someone leaves the heliport rather than when they get home?

It's clear you don't understand the measures in place currently.

Equally. After you spend 3 weeks offshore effectively quarantined offshore ...you are a safer bet than the people in the pub.

Also production is the cynical view.

When you have seen the cost of medivac you'd see they don't want you offshore infecting people as a medivac is big bucks and each medivac has limited capacity/1 at a time.

Corona choppers as they're known are as trail rat says not cheap, we've had maybe 4 or 5 since this started but all tests were negative. As for the onward travel thing the company I work for puts on travel in mini buses and they also cost a fair bit I'm only 30 minutes away but one guy stays in Kent! having said that as far as I'm aware no other company where I work does this.

Am out and about in the camper . Lovely week in Rosemarkie. No props whatsoever to the 3 bellend gravel bike heroes riding 3 abreast into Achnasheen - Fuxk me get a grip it’s a main road and you absolutely knew there was a 20 vehicle row behind you. Grump over. Beautiful day, sunny swim in the sea and a whisky fuelled midge fest for dinner !

Has anyone with kids in Scotland had guidelines from the school banning the kids from cycling to school to control Covid? Does anyone understand / know the logic behind this because I can't work it out?

Nope - lots of guidelines/rules about when to drop them off/where to stand etc but nothing I can see about bikes. Notorious covid spreaders that they are!

No, the message to parents at my school was:

Travelling to and from [the school], if possible, should involve walking or cycling. Where cars or public transport is needed, pupils should follow the ScotGov protocol for transport and cars could perhaps help by dropping off away from school and allowing the final stage of the journey to be walked.

Nope, the Edinburgh guidelines explicitly encourage it and the streets around our school are to be shut off to help improve pedestrian and bike access

Nothing about bike in borders, that I can see.

There's a lot of mealy mouthed wordage which boils down to we'd rather you just carried on as normal but we can't say that.
I think I'm going for a run before I head in.
We get 1hour per faculty of briefing on all the usual stuff and covid but 30mins of that is the flood protection companies telling us that there will be building works.

That's the opposite of Scot.Gov. guidance. Which authority?

current risk assessment says to clean any bike storage areas frequently nothing about banning kids from cycling to school.

"Unfortunately, we cannot store bikes or scooters or use our bike rack as it is situated close to the gate and we cannot guarantee the require distance for adults or enhanced cleaning/reduced touch. This will be kept under review."

From a primary school in East Lothian. Pretty sure it's more than 2m from the school gate though so don't really understand how the distance guarantee is any less valid there than anywhere else.

Ah, so they aren't cleaning the area so no riding/scootering in.

I've just watched a nervous mrs_oab back to school today.
She's spent since March only seeing immediate family, a couple of friends and neighbours as she was shielding due to a Primary Immune condition.
Suddenly to be in a building with hundreds of kids and multiple staff is going to be a shock...

I've got tape down on the floor so I don't go closer than 2m to the desks and tape guiding the pupils to their desks. Major emphasis on staff safety from the PT today. Kids will not be doing experiments which sucks. Plus I'm going to be in another room for 4 classes so have to move those desks as well 🙁

Well that was interesting. Being quoted distancing requirements which were wrong even when shown the ScotGov information.
School day changed and staggered. A one way system implemented signage arrived at 1530 with all staff to be out at 1545 to allow fogging.the kids have a 2hr ppt to sit through tomorrow which hadn't been sent out when I left the building. It needs to be a staged return but we're crashing them all back in.

It certainly helps the decision making that he's shite. Leigh Griffiths party for his wee neddy bird seems to have been forgotten...

To be fair Leigh Griffiths is entitled to the same legal protection as anyone else. However he's had help with several problems and come back this season unfit and breaching the Covid-19 regs so.... If I was him I'd be asking my agent to find sound out other clubs

Sacking him would be silly I reckon, someone will buy him, jebus we got a million for kouassi! 😆

He's a dafty, reaction, as usual, is over the top. needless to say, he'll have played his last game for us.

If he had cost us europe, offft, that would have been a sight to behold!! 😆

more concerned about the shambles on sunday tbh!

Wepaddler- our kids’ school said actively encourage them to cycle and we will add extra bike storage capacity if necessary!

Kids will not be doing experiments which sucks.

Poah - I’m intrigued by the rationale for this? They think the teacher has to get too close? They think the kids will be cross contaminating equipment? Or it takes too much time in a pressured curriculum...

because we can't walk about the class or interact with the pupils. pupils are not allowed to share anything as well. I can do demonstrations though

There definitely seems to be a "lads on tour" element in the Highlands that never use to exist.

Set up a checkpoint on the A82, tell anyone wearing white trainers that Balloch is Highlands and don't let them any further north!

700 fans going to be allowed in Murrayfield, only 200 allowed into (220 acres of) Knockhill. Anyone have the slightest clue what the thinking behind that is?

Knockhill have just knocked having fans on the head completely now as they don’t think there’s a fair way to allocate the tickets. Feel for them tbh

i would guess that they want all fans seated so they can control distancing. the stand at knockhill is small.
having said that would the stand at knockhill even fit 200 in distanced?

TBH the knockhill thing just feels like not understanding how spectating at race tracks works, and looking at the stand capacity alone. Either that, or maybe their risk assessment wasn't too good. Think that might get reviewed one way or another though

Which stand? There are shelters/stands at various points of the track, and even in the worst conditions people spread out all over to see different parts of the track (think I’ve used a shelter once or twice in over 30 years of going). Over 1 acre per spectator certainly seems OTT.

Think you’re right NW, possible that the criteria being used are set towards stadium sports so Knockhill just might not tick the right boxes.

Spectators getting in at the minute are just test events. If they go well, the crowds should be allowed to expand, that'll be a slow approach though, don't expect anywhere near even half capacity anytime soon.. I don't really see any issue with that approach.

bit short sighted of knockhill, "to knock fans on the head", I'd say, it's all a process at the minute, particularly if there's the amount of spaces as you say. (Although, I suspect the biggest issue will be people funnelling by each other and bottle necks, getting to and from their spot, to toilets, for food, drink, etc etc etc. that a lot of interaction that will need to be considered.)

Kinda up to knockhill to work out those issues and come up with solutions I'd imagine..

She said they look at it on Sunday, not that they'll be doing a press conf. The press conferences are pretty standard in how they go about them, so I don't think it's a surprise she'll not be on till the morra.

i was only thinking from my times up there where i only went in the pits/paddock or driving on track, the only stand i could remember was the main one at the hairpin.

8 classmates of one of my son's went to Greece for a fortnight of partying and sun to celebrate finishing school.

Those with jobs returned to work the day after they returned, all were starting uni and college this week.

4 have tested positive.

We've now a cluster in Dunblane/Stirling, based out their workplaces in Tesco, McD's, Hilton, local newsagents etc.

Agreed LD. I spoke to shop today. The track and trace folk are happy with the shop protocol and minimal risk posed. Shop is upset to be mentioned in national press, although recognises this is needed/legal requirement.

It's interesting how those who/ how they caused it hasn't been highlighted. You know a few of them....

New visiting restrictions in Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire as a result of the increased positive numbers there.

From midnight tonight, people in Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire:

  • must not host people from other households in your home and do no visit some else's home. The only exception, apart from emergencies, is extended households.

  • The whole household of a person who is identified as close contact linked to the cluster should self-isolate for 14 day

  • Visiting care homes will be restricted to outdoor visits only and hospitals will be essential visitors only

{Mods - thank you for fixing my post}

And that's quarantining for folk coming from Greece too now.

FWIW, we also have a small cluster local to us. Only 5 folk so far but that's in a relatively sparsely populated area. I'm friendly with some of the folk who've been tested, some of whom are also my wifes colleagues. Local gossip suggests it's related to one of the British Legion clubs, in which case it might involve some "at risk" elderly.

Apparently a lass just back from Zante, straight into the local hotspot, sookin the face aff half of the pub, and is being classed a superspreader.

Oh dear.

If this carries on, I think the pubs will regret being as blase, I don't think Nicola will be long wi them.

Aye, seems daft. I wonder if it's that pubs at least have T&T in place whereas they know that folk will do unregulated house visits if the pubs are closed again?

Yeah this is going to be a bit antogonistic in Aberdeen (5 mile limit/shut all pubs/restaurants)!

I'm guessing it's driven by their understanding of the transmission mechanisms driving specific outbreaks? Like the Coupar Angus outbreak, big factory, well documented, easy to do T&T on potentially exposed employees.

Not saying I disagree but the general public doesn't really do nuance...

My daughter and her boyfriend were supposed to be going to Corfu in two weeks' time.

The news about people returning from Greece to Scotland having to self-isolate for 2 weeks on return from Thursday morning has now made this more complicated.

She is desparate for some time away, but my son is in S6 and doesn't want to have to miss any school time. Personally I don't want to have to self-isolate for 2 weeks when she comes back and my wife feels the same. My youngest has only just restarted in S2 as well.

I can see lots of arguments over the next couple of weeks, ho hum!

Pubs should be operating social distancing and have track and trace in place. Theoretically safer than unsupervised contact at home. Note the use of the word "theoretically"

I don't get the desire to go abroad during a global pandemic. I seem to be in the minority I think!

Social distancing is a thing of the past going by my local Aldi tonight. Plenty of folk in not wearing masks and no one really bothered. I think it's going to take a few local lockdowns, maybe not so local, to get people cooperating again.

See loads on pictures on line of people out for a drink, cuddling for photos etc.

Its a bizarre thought process, yes happy to wear a mask to walk round a deserted co op but also happy to sit beside a shouting friend who has had a few and nothing covering their nose or mouth.

My neice is 23 and was saying to her friends to all now go round to hers before 12 for a get together like it was a time a bus was leaving etc.

On the upside, that suggests she may actually try to abide by the new restrictions (otherwise there's no need to consider a deadline)

Ach well here we go again, was planning to visit my folks in Ayr but that's looking a bit risky now. Visiting my son in Glasgow is out of the question for a while.
The new restrictions make perfect sense to me, people have been partying in houses with too many others and no social distancing. Let's hope the clusters don't spread

15 positives and I know a few more who are waiting for results. In a town of 12k.
The family getting the blame were in Turkey told they didn't need to isolate on return. She felt peaky her work said go for test while she was getting tested hubby went to the pub.
A friend had to go to Kendal for a test from hawick (that's where he was sent) didn't taste his lunch.
It's all safe though.

I went to the gym yesterday. Not really sure how I feel about it (well, my legs are sore, but you know...)
It's a Puregym, and while they've done quite a lot to distance it out etc, it still felt too crowded. There were only 60 folk in at the time, and they will let up to 109 in (according to their app). I think pre-covid capacity was nearer 200.

I can just see an issue where someone gets a positive test and loads of people (and me) get contacted to self-isolate and the gym gets closed down. They have very good info on who is in there trhough their door entry system, though I did see an option in the app to opt-out of track and trace?

It opens at 4AM and I checked the app which said <10 folk were in, so I may have to start setting the alarm for early morning workouts. To be fair, it was mid afternoon on day 2 of re-opening when I was in.
Just feeling a bit uncomfortable about it, especially as the general trend is the cases are rising. Loads of kids from local high school in there too...

This is where I am tbh, saturday at the Kingshouse was the first time I've eaten out since this started (hunger won the day!) as I don't want that call either.

the general trend is the cases are rising.

I think this is as much down to testing as anything though, stated on radio shortbreed this morning that we are testing quite a bit more than any other region of the UK.

It's exactly this sort of thing that will keep the virus spreading back into areas that have started to see positive improvement re. transmission rates - drives me mental, I've been out for lunch a couple of times & it's been run really well, the pubs near me are open again & have been sticking to the plan with limited numbers / distancing etc. but ultimately all it takes is a couple of idiots to set us back another couple of months.

I was listening to a radio phone in just after big Nic made comments about young folk needing to toe the line & there were loads of people phoning in (including Joan ****ing Burnie, from France...) to defend the rights of young people to behave like young people & how it wasn't all their fault... few calls later a bouncer came on & set them straight, saying after a few double vodkas all sense of social responsibility goes out the window and the place is a free for all & he had colleagues all over the central belt and beyond saying exactly the same thing, and that's before the pubs empty & it's 20 folk back to someone's house for a party then back into work a day later... it's exactly this sort of behaviour that's driving a resurgence in areas that had very low rates of infection & sadly I can see pubs being closed again sooner than later

I agree, but I'd feel for the owners and staff of decent pubs.

A better approach would be to identify problem pubs - one in town that is mobbed all weekend with 16-25 year olds is a nightmare tbh. The day the pubs all shut he advertised on social media a 'one last party' night, which was then binned when said social media went off the scale mental. Guys a pr1ck.

God knows how you'd do or enforce this though.

So, my daughter has said that she will self-isolate on return from Crete at her boyfriend's house.

Okay, that sounds like a good idea, but she also said "mum said that I can can come around and visit during the day when my brother is at school!"

Err, I don't think that is self-isolating and what about the other members of the household? I have been working from home since lockdown started and will continue to do so for a good while yet. I don't want her coming into the house at all.

All this would do is send the problem people into the decent pubs, much like the problem we're having with problem campers at the minute. I think if one closes they all have to close unfortunately 🙁

Not 100%, there's quite a few pubs in my town who run a tight ship, won't serve anyone who's had enough, no groups of folk etc - It's them I'd feel sorry for really, landlords who are genuinely trying hard.

What it probably would do is increase the number of house parties and illegal gatherings.

That's exactly it - the folk who DGAF will behave irresponsibly whether the pubs - again, responsible or not - are open or not. Even bringing in hefty fines for flouting restrictions won't deter the worst offenders as it's had to fine a house full of career benefits claimants going mental on cheap vodka if there's nary a salary between them to pay it...

The point is that because we have a functioning track and trace system the government know that its not pubs causing the outbreaks in Glasgow - its folk mixing in houses

Twitter thread from Sturgeon explaining this

I'd question how 'functioning' this track and trace is tbh. Popped into a couple of pubs cycling the WHW for pints of coke, we only had to put one name down, regardless of how big the group was. If there's 4 or 5 folk in a group, and the contact details are wrong (on purpose or not) then the whole chain is broken.

The situation local to me was entirely down to one person returning from Zante and then subsequently going into said shithole pub, not a house, which was why I brought the pub thing up.

There’s plenty of arseholes on good salaries. Plenty of good folks on benefits too unfortunately.

Entirely - a lazy generalisation on my part, the type I'm referring to are the ones completely ripping the arse out of it, co-habiting couples with kids but claiming they live individually & sub-letting the "spare" accommodation to their mates who treat it like a 24hr rave cave or using it as a drop for smack heads etc etc... but yeah, on the face of it there's no material difference between them & the walloper in the big house at the end of the street that's turned his back garden into a 30 capacity boozer with a 50" tv and a bastard hot tub & has all his walloper mates round until 4am all weekend

Anecdote alert: I had 2 dinners out last week, only 1 took any details.

Not been to a pub.

Have been abroad (4 flights, 5 airports).

Cafe for lunch yesterday. T&T was using a notepad and pen that was passed around the customers. Valiant effort ruined in implementation. Other measures (spacing, one-way) were all fine though.

Local cluster in Grantown area. 31 confirmed, 29 of which linked with a local abattoir. I suspect that number will double over the course of the next few days. Given the amount of regular movement between Grantown area and Aviemore (including my wife and daughter) we're all being extra vigilant.

I agree, but I’d feel for the owners and staff of decent pubs.

A better approach would be to identify problem pubs – one in town that is mobbed all weekend with 16-25 year olds is a nightmare tbh. The day the pubs all shut he advertised on social media a ‘one last party’ night, which was then binned when said social media went off the scale mental. Guys a pr1ck.

God knows how you’d do or enforce this though.

Doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibility that Environmental Health should be visiting pubs etc (presumably based on risk/intelligence assessment) and at the least warning for non-compliance or issuing fines or closure orders where non-compliant. Police have quite wide reaching licensing powers for licensed premises anyway if they don't cooperate with EHOs, and I'm sure it would be appropriate to report problems to licensing boards which would undoubtedly focus the minds of the proprietors. Issue will be that there aren't many EHOs, and cooncils don't like to pay them to work unsociable hours...

Absolutely, should be doing some high profile raids tbh. Treat it like you would any licencing issue (in fact, don't do that, treat it like you'd treat a licencing issue and also you're absolutely mental, like the Arches)

The point is that because we have a functioning track and trace system the government know that its not pubs causing the outbreaks in Glasgow – its folk mixing in houses

I’d question how ‘functioning’ this track and trace is tbh.

Thing is, they'll evaluate how well it's working based on the actual cases they're investigating, rather than based on evaluating form filling or whatever. So if they have X cases and were able to confirm that they were household transmission then it doesn't matter if the pub down the road didn't do the tracing right, on this occasion.
