i've got the lower curve (are you talking about the 3g or the other one?). its fine for the web, a little slow at times (no 3g, does have wifi). For free on £10/month you can't go wrong. Battery life is pretty good (48 hours with bluetooth, wifi turned on, frequent browsing\music playing). lots of free apps in the app store. Takes pictures that are alright, nothing special. Doesn;t have a flash

I've got a BlackBerry 8520 which is only 2g and wifi. It's great for sending and receiving email. Regular web pages are a PITA, but of course I could be at fault here, but mobile web pages are fine. Again I don't really want it for surfing.

Much as I love it, I have a feeling that for surfing, pictures and video there might be better options. The Blackeberry is good for calls, music and email.

don simon - try using the opera browser instead? it compresses everything at the server side, and is a lot nicer to use than the blackberry browser. Free download on the blackberry world app thing

5230
good points = GPS (sportracker is excellent) also Viewranger. Opera browser, gmail and youtube apps are all good.
bad points = touch screen is OK but not the best. 2MP camera with no flash. No Wifi.

And having played around configuring my daughter's blackberry out of contract - I can confirm - they are a PITA without a blackberry specific data plan and very few apps will work without one (opera does).

There's a few cheapo android phones out now and at carphonewarehouse the payg phones are all unlocked. Perhaps go this route with a SIM only deal?

Got a Blackberry 8900 great for text and e-mail but being 2g internet is slow but good if you can get a wifi signal and battery life is brilliant. Don't know about apps as work won't allow 3rd part software on it 🙁

Also find Blackberry cameras aren't the best.

I have a curve.

It's absolutely brilliant for emails.
It's okay as a phone.
It's not very good as a camera.
It's rubbish for web.

It's a works phone, otherwise I'd swap it for something else...
