I tried, I really did, but after 30 minutes gave up.
I’m too old and cynical but that was it for me.
Sad acting skills and Bradley being on too many other shows somehow pushed it past my limits of allowance. At least he’s leaving so hopefully we’ll get a less well known face to replace him 🤔.

I watched 3 episodes of S2 of Altered Carbon instead. Much more my thing. (And why on earth did I wait so long to watch it?)

Same here. Sadly.

Erm, about that...

Yeah. That was a bit naughty of me to say that. Almost like they can’t rely on the plot or the acting to draw people in. At least it’s not Catherine Tate being Catherine Tate in every episode.

You set of miserable sods!

I watched it with my Dr Who obsessed son and thought it was great. John Bishop will be good and Catherine Tate was excellent.

Bring it!

I liked Tate.

Last night’s episode was mostly lazy and dull.

I'll echo the disappointment. It was a bit 'by the numbers', and even for recent Who showrunners the

Spoiler
'Oh look! I've got a spare TARDIS'
deus ex machina was a bit much.

Having said that, Captain Jack is always a joy. Time for RTD to come back and do some more Torchwood?

Was thinking that too. Have they set Graham and Ryan up to join Jack?

You have to expect it with Dr Who- usually it’s the sonic screwdriver that can do anything.

It’s on a par with Star Trek TNG running level 3 diagnostics to sort any problem.

I watched it all the way through but found myself drifting away, the kids didn't bother its always ben a family watcb.

I've always liked the programme, but the hammy acting by extras getting exterminated, the biggest fail for me was when the Tardis imploded, why were there sheets of A4 paper flying around, poor effects considering the budget.

Surely the Doctor would be paperless, I've never spotted a filing cabinet in the Tardis

I've never seen the attraction. Always looked like a load of crap to me but I'll give the BBC one thing.... they've done a great job over the years in hyping it up as a "must watch".

I hope so. I'm sure I've read that Barrowman has hinted at the possibility (or at least that he'd like to do more). The whole phone call where "Gwen says hello" scene also felt like it was pointing at that...

Well that’s the Xmas card list chopped by 2 then.

To be fair it’s not Catherine Tate in Dr Who that was a problem. It’s Catherine Tate in anything that I have a problem with. Look at her on Catsdown, slow and unfunny.

Sooooo missed that! Children Of Earth was one of the greatest pieces of UK SF ever. Season 4 was pretty darn good if maybe a couple of episodes too long but outweighed by the opening beach scene being shot in a house in Rhossy I’ve rented.
Is now excited.

The nearest I’ve ever got to the paperless office was a couple of letters out due to running short of loo roll.

Wasn't the paper all the post it notes jaz (sp?) Had used in the other TARDIS?

It was a bit contrived (I know) and too easily solved. It had all the solutions set up to make it an easy solve.

It was reasonable. Just the soap opera bits were unnecessary especially the lengthy Yaz clearly has a crush on the Doctor (while not showing any interest, just continuing to look grumpy).

Cut out the fluff and could have been more fun at 60 or 45 mins. But still, Jack and gold Daleks were good, and a hint of Torchwood S5 or a special.

Children Of Earth was one of the greatest pieces of UK SF ever

Torchwood suddenly became great, when Chibnall was no longer involved. Funny that.

Had to watch it, my son is part of the team that makes the tardis and the Daleks. He even got an award for being a Darlek Wrangler!

Proud dad moment

I really enjoyed it. I also was not expecting much of Bradley Walsh when he was announced as being a companion. However he's run rings around the other two, his acting was on another level to the other two. Hes done a good job of it.

Agree about Walsh… he was always the highlight, which was a big surprise to me. There wasn’t much for him in this episode though, was there. Final scenes were all I recall him being in, really.

Enjoyed it, it was a Christmas Special, and it had Daleks in it! Oh, and it had Captain Jack Harkness! I’m not looking to go into deep analysis of subtle plot lines, it’s Dr Who, the only TV show that I watched as a kid, and still watch now, and I saw the very first episode, ‘An Unearthly Child’, the music still gives me a bit of a chill.

they’ve done a great job over the years in hyping it up as a “must watch”.

Well, they tried very hard to kill it off at one point, actually it didn’t require them to try very hard, it was the fact that the DG didn’t like it, and wouldn’t put any resources into it, and the storylines were crap, along with the acting and ‘special effects’, it became a joke, and finally stopped being made.
At least the companions these days actually do something, there was a time when some of them didn’t do much more than scream at the monster of the week.

I thought it was ok. Improved by having read this thread in advance and therefore having low expectations set. But I do think that we need to find a new long term enemy. Daleks have been done to death.

Were the red Daleks modelled on those Armadillo things left around building sites. Someone left a pair in a public space near Musselburgh so this morning I thought I would risk extermination and walk up to one.

Got a bright light and a dead ringer for Dr Paisley telling me that security and police were informed. Most amusing. Given the location on the Musselburgh to Fort Kinnaird path, I expect the battery to need recharging.

Just wish I could hack it and get Dr Paisley to say “teeth will be provided”

It was such a dull episode... but not as dull as that guy talking about "traditional" heroes.

There was some wheat amongst his chaff.
When even the Telegraph call the show show "flat, worthy and woke' you know you have problems.

I would stand in front of that camera on a regular basis with abusive signs and flipping the finger.
How many times would it take for the automated call out procedure to **** off the company?

Guess what I did.

It had a mate - which just burbled and muttered, a bit like a certain "politician". I suspect the battery was near flat. Being on a public road, it must get a fair bit of bird/v-sign action.

He was really good in it and tbh I thought he’d be crap.

I just didn’t like the characterisation of the Doctor and it’s not because she was a lady as I thoroughly enjoyed Jo Martin playing the later Doctor she had that twinkle.
