OK, so I bought a DVD that came with a digital download. I have now downloaded the file to my tablet, renamed it to an .avi file (it downloaded as a .wvm file) and it plays fine using MX Player.
However, when I copy the file across to my laptop (I have tried direct via usb cable and via Dropbox) the movie gets about 10 seconds in and the picture freezes and the sound seems to get stuck in a loop. The exact same file still plays fine on my tablet (Asus Android). I am trying to play it via VCL.
I have also upgraded the drivers for my graphics card which has had no effect.
Any ideas?
Edit; I should also say that I have tried playing it with Real Player with the same result. I have also tried converting it to mp4, with the same result.
I don't get it. Is that supposed to be helpful?
update your codecs?
I have the latest versions of VLC and Real Player.
Try The KM player. I have had that play things that VLC wouldn't.
If not sounds like the file is messed up. Or if its HD I have had high res videos freeze my old laptop before.
Easier just to illegally re download the bloody thing I would have thought 😆
It might be a DRM issue - you may only have a licence to play it once. Just because you change the extension to avi doesn't change the format or content.
Renaming the extension isn't a wise move as above, it doesn't re-encode the video.
If you need to re-encode it then use something like handbrake. Also reencode to something better like MP4.
Real player? What is this, 2002? Move on dude.
Download it as the original format again, direct to the PC? Or rename back to .wvm and copy to PC?
Recently had to get some kids DVDs onto an a droid tablet had to first use make mkv then handbrake to get it sorted
Renaming it wasn't to re-encode it, it was just to get it to play.
As I said, it still plays fine on my tablet, after re-naming the extension, so it must be something to do with my laptop.
A security feature could be one option, as mentioned above.
You won't be able to transfer the downloaded file between computers due to digital rights management. Download it directly on your laptop or track down a pirated copy on the internet with no restrictions.
Just rip the DVD.
I don't have a blu-Ray player on my laptop.
