Came across this on the beeb website and I remember doing this at school. Oh the memories...

There was an awful lot of talk about it. Some other kids in our school saw something on a laser disk.. We went on a bus trip to some point outside town, waited in a layby whilst some other kids did something in a field, then had to go home before it was our turn.
Magic.
Yup - I did some of the building surveys in Cullercoats to define use for the project.
Remember it happening. Interesting looking back to a mid-80's snapshot. Especially stuff like M25 still being built then, which is not *that* long ago.
Also remember playing with the Laserdiscs too (CD's must have been around then, but not CDROMS?)
Too old, but had a look and there's a picture of the gate at the bottom of my parents garden. Which is odd.
