Do you think even bother to brief him? His surprise when told that Russia can't play at present...

they got it completely arse about face

It's not a mistake. It's about reframing... embracing and celebrating "the dark side". Star Wars is a thinly veiled allegory for the fight against fascism, and how it damages those that are part of it not just those that stand up to it. There's also the ongoing battle about whether caring for others is a strength or a weakness.

I don't believe it for a second. This is politics as reality TV... scripted exchanges before the world's media to dangle the carrot of reengagement in a way everyone can see.

I cant help think that with the idiots he has in his cabinet any trade deals he does get will be rubbish for the US.  They just do not have the expertise

He is also desperate for some deals to show the American people

Link seems to work now.

I wonder what happens to Trump's brain at night.

There was a suggestion from one of the YTube commentators that the film Escape from Alcatraz had been playing on some local Florida channel the night before and that that's where the idea to resurrect it probably come from.

Yeah, but that was clearly the fault of the Biden administration. Don't you know that Trump's Alcatraz will be betterer than anything that ever was before, ever?

I'm just amazed he didn't say that only one person ever escaped from Alcatraz, his name was John Mason. But then he went back to help Nicolas Cage stop a chemical missile attack on San Francisco and didn't survive.

He did say something along the lines of "well there was one guy who escaped but . . . it didn't end well" - I wonder if he just about realised what he was saying and stopped.

You have to hand it to him, I know it's incoherent jibberish but his ability to keep talking is incredible.

This is a president. Not that cretinous clown currently squatting in the Oval Office.

Really., you think so?, he’s a genocide enabler and I hope he lives long enough to be charged as such…..Netanyahu bent him over the resolute desk in the oval office and ****ed him, 50,000+ deaths and untold numbers of amputees created with American supplied bombs and logistics.

Biden did absolutely **** all to reign in Netanyahu and his ghouls.

Never a truer word spoken. Biden could have easily reigned in Netanyahu and his far-right neo-fascist government had he chosen to do so, he chose not to.

And I mean easily, the IDF is totally dependent on US support, they could not have murdered 50,000 men women and children without it.

While talking about Alcatraz, he said "but bigger". Is he planning an extension? He does know it's an island doesn't he?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-tusli-gabbard-spy-greenland-b2746117.html

“The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of aiding deep-state actors who seek to undermine the president by politicizing and leaking classified information,” Gabbard told the paper in response to its reporting.

It's beyond parody that the president and his Director of National Intelligence can continue to blame the deep state.

So couldn't Trump have stopped that too "within 24 hours"?

Aye, without in any way condoning Bidens (and our own 2 governments) failure to halt the Israeli atrocities, Trump hasn't been any better.

I don't know about within 24 hours but yes of course Trump could stop the genocide, without a shadow of a doubt. If the suggestion that there isn't any difference between Trump and Biden with regards to Palestine I totally agree and I believe that was somafunk's point too.

We have a USA president that in his last term in office pushed for settler expansion and for the whole of Jerusalem to be accepted by his country as being part of Israel. In his second term he has called for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. He is not “the same as” Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Carter and others. They all fell short. He is still far worse for the Palestinian people. It’s time to wake up to that. There will be no Palestinians left in Palestine, at all, if we get another 7 years of Trump led policy for the region.

Certainly Trump isn't the same as Obama or Clinton with regards to Israel, or even Ronald Reagan, but no one has claimed that he is.

The claim is that Trump and Biden are no different when it comes to giving support to Israel. If you can't see that it is because you haven't followed events very closely and you have swallowed Biden's public relations exercise of publicly slapping Israel's wrist in the full knowledge that Israel would totally ignore it and just carry on doing exactly what they wanted to do.

Biden did not stop Netanyahu from doing anything he wanted to do. There were no significant policy differences between Biden and Trump with regards to Israel. Both talked bollocks whilst neither stopped Israel doing what it wanted to do.

Israeli oppression of the Palestinians in the West Bank went unabated during Biden's presidency,  indeed it was probably the greatest catalyst for the Hamas attack on Oct 7. The evidence is overwhelming, here is just one small piece

Could be Trump-slop but it looks like there's a trade deal coming for the UK-USA.

Turbo-charged change.

Honestly, >I would not believe that until the ink dries on the paper and, even then, the US has shown itself to not really GAS about things like agreements.

I'd also put money on any deal with the US being heavily weighted towards US gain and not in any way being fair.

TBH he needs a photo opportunity for the next episode and Starmer probably wants a photo opportunity as well so it’s a win-win for them . Also blocks Farage from banging on about a trade deal with his bestest bud Donald over the next 4 years and kills any ideas of Farage being a political go between.

Thing is Trump gets fixated on things like why Europe won’t buy their cars  so we just agree for lower tariffs on things that the U.K. doesn’t want, F150s monster trucks and caddies ,5 litre v8’s , knowing full well that the manufacturers are unlikely to build in RHD form and ‘most’ people aren’t really that keen on sport trucks.

if Farage fans cared about trade deals they wouldn't have been in favour of Brexit. And Farage is the only person that thinks he and Trump are friends, or that he actually has a profile in the US. Maga and republicans don't have any interest in this ugly-toothed funny-talking foreigner.

I had to smile at this reaction from President Trump to India's attack on ****stan, a sovereign state since 1947,

"It's a shame, we just heard about it" "I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They've been fighting for a long time; many, many decades and centuries actually if you really think about it." TV interview from RapidResponse47 (official Trump 47th President channel, holding Fake News accountable) on TwitterX

EDIT "****stan". The original 1933 acronym is "Pakstan", does that work?

Yes

It's not just the level of ignorance of Trump himself, it's the fact that his team either aren't briefing him, or reining him in.

I've heard of people being pure evil, but pure stupid is pretty dangerous too.

Well although now he is Pope Cardinal Prevost will presumably be a bit less keen to wade into internal US politics his elevation to Pope won't be great news for Trump, especially as Pope Leo will undoubtedly have a firm grip when it comes to understanding US politics.

And Trump's remarkable tolerance of Pope Francis's criticism was no doubt connected to the fact that 20% of Americans claim to be Catholic.

80-90% of US beef is hormone fed, which means its mostly organic beef that would be allowed in

that's has a hefty price premium over hormone fed, up to 67% more, not sure how that will be profitable to ship & sell here

https://www.extension.iastate.edu/agdm/articles/schulz/SchDec20.html

i can't see American beef farmers being too excited by this

Shirley this mutant US beef will have to marked on the package and then the buyer will avoid? Unless it's surreptitiously fed to various institutions.

which Starmer has said he will not do

Starmer has said a lot of things, that he has then backtracked on once the media have moved on, to misquote an old Samuel Goldwyn saying, a Starmer promise isn't worth the paper it is written on.

If Starmer does let the frankenbeef in then that means no deal on food and veterinary standards with the EU.  Reeves has said quite rightly the EU deal is more important and Starmer knows this as well.  Its a simple question of volume

I suspect the deal which is only an outline at the moment may collapse over this

What does it say to you........ that the United States and its president have a profound effluence on us and the rest of the world?

And on that note......apparently there has been a very long standing reluctance to having an American Pope (I think the United States has the fourth largest Catholic population in the world)  because it was considered that it would increase US global influence, and the reason the current Pope made it was because he is seen as half Peruvian, which he is, and it would appear that Peruvians are celebrating that fact.

Yes, they will appease us by clearly labelling it, but it will still be cheap so the poor will not have a choice and it will negatively affect their health, as so many things do.  Also, restaurants will buy it and feed it to us without labelling it. Nandos and KFC will of course use chlorinated chicken and the customers won't know.

Yep, people who buy £1 frozen lasagnes are probably not in the same position as someone choosing top quality British steak.

There are no changes on food standards. There can’t be, because any reduction in standards for USA imports would also have to apply for UK grown food, which would then prevent any meaningful arrangements with the EU and Europe more widely. All that is happening is that USA beef that already passes UK/EU standards, and can already be imported, now has a higher quota before tariffs are applied. The food you can buy and eat in the UK will be the same as it was before the “deal”.

Out of interest, what are the supposed (adverse?) effects of consuming hormone-fed beef and/or "chlorinated" chicken? And what sort of volumes of consumption would trigger such effects?

(I eat chicken at least once per week but only eat beef a couple of times per year)
