After getting into a spat with a civil rights activist on MLK day things will be primed, protests marches planned on the day and counter marches by bikers.
Only the cold weather can save it from kicking off now!
Last time a US president tried to stop their involvement abroad, his brain ended on the back seat of his car.
This one's brain is already in his backseat. And if you think he's not going to engage in 'involvement abroad' then check out the bridge I have for sale in the classifieds, hardyhar.
The thing is about Trump and his "promises", based on actual things he is on record as saying:- Scenario A: He meant every word he said during his campaign and since.
If this is the case, then this means the following:
- He's racist;
- He really does not know what his overall plan is;
- He's schizophrenic;
- He's bigoted;
- He's homophobic and sexist;
- He has no compassion whatsoever.
- Scenario B: Everything he said during his campaign was just to get him elected:
Therefore:
- He's a class A manipulator;
- He's really does not know what his overall plan is;
- He has no compassion whatsoever;
- He's a liar and therefore not to be trusted;
- He has no empathy or social skills, and therefore a sociopath;Either way, it's not good
What's worse is C. ie no-one probably not even Trump knows entirely what was/is BS, what is a plan and what isn't/wasn't. The personality disorders are a given, they are there for all to see and hear, if not identify.
A+B = C-word.
Whilst Trump's election as US president is clearly very bad news for all those who support peace and justice in Palestine there are already signs that it has began to reduce the influence and authority of the United States on global matters.

The people of the United States have elected a new President, not the new leader of the world.
What he is is already clear to everyone, but he was elected in spite of that.
Or because of that?
Because of that. It made him different to all the other candidates, a substantial chunk of the US electorate wanted 'different'. The Obama legacy no longer represented change which they could believe in.
EDIT : I'm not saying that the American people wanted a racist as a president, I'm saying they wanted someone who tore up the rulebook concerning what makes the perfect politician. They had tried smooth slick carefully crafted career politicians that said all the right things and were left hugely unimpressed.
I doubt they thought for certain that Trump was the right person for the job but they were left so disillusioned by career politicians that they thought it was worth taking a risk with something completely different. Trump is something completely different.
i would be interested to see stats on what % of obama voters switched to Trump
My feeling is it quite a small % but i have not seen any figure

The John Lewis tweets are just... "all talk talk talk, no action", the man was a bloody freedom rider. He was one of the organisers of the march on washington ffs.
At this point it's no shock but that doesn't mean it becomes OK.

Trump has received $90m in donations for his inauguration, a record. Obama had 10 inauguration balls, Trump is having 3. Excess is being donated to charity.

Probably because no one feels like celebrating the fact Trump is President (throws up a little, just thinking it).
Amusing amount of butthurt in the comments section of that Herald piece.
I thought it was the lefties that were meant to be the delicate snowflakes that took offence at everything. 😆
Enjoyed this too:
Wow.
The anti establishment billionaire guy has received $90 million from the establishment
Whodathunkit
Who can blame them for not wanting to attend with entertainment like this:
. Obama had 10 inauguration balls, Trump is having 3.
Does he have enough musicians to play 3?
Musicians for two and he's doing a mix tape for the third
There will be a Bruce Springsteen tribute act at Trumps inauguration. How humiliating is that - to be so shunned by the entertainment business that you have to rely on a tribute act?
The drummer from Crimson Glory is playing though, that makes up for it.
(the Garden State Gala isn't actually part of the inauguration though. And the E Grade Band played it the last 2 times too)
ernie - how embarrasing for Bruce Springstein a massive Democrat supporter to have his music played at a Trump inauguration and be able to do nothing about it. Born in the USA ringing out as Trump becomes President. The TV image of the night ?
Trump quite rightly lighting a fire under NATO and the very long list of countries not pulling their weight. Also interesting how it takes Russian agression to get Europe to wake up and spend a bit more - 2016e
yeah trumpers will only know the chorus anyway
but its painfully obvious to everyone that hes been snubbed by everyone,.... most of all to the snowflake in chief himself

Indeed, almost as embarrassing as having $90,000,000 to spend on a party and still can't get any real celebrities to turn up, relying on fakes instead.
oh wait, Trump relying on fakes, that rings a bell...
Nice retort from German deputy chancellor on how to get Germans to buy American cars "build better cars" 🙂
Trust me he is not remotely embarrassed. He's going to be the President of the US and the world will be watching. What is there to be embarrassed about ?
Nice retort from German deputy chancellor on how to get Germans to buy American cars "build better cars"
Amusing indeed, however playing with fire given emissions scandal and NATO underspend, Germany agreed to increase from 1.2% to 2% but Trump could easily demand that's done sooner. It's a €30bn pa increase required. Trump could (and IMO will) screw the Germans over eurozone debt crises by getting a fabulous deal for the IMF in any bailout or simply having the IMf stay out completely.
Yeah, I bet he's just weeing himself....
Be even more hilarious if The Boss slapped an injunction on the Tribute band.
jambalaya - Member
Trust me
Shouldn't think so.
^^^ he got $90m in donations, would suggest he has mates.
He is in a stand off with the MSM at the moment, apparantly he is refusing to give them their normal permament White House "West Wing" access. There will just be a large room (400 seat capacity) no preferential access and no permanent office space. As we saw in the last conference, no CNN question and one for Breitbart. Changing of the guard media wise.

A lot more embarrassing for Trump,
It's probably the US equivalent of having a Billy Bragg tribute playing at the Tory Party Conference with no awareness of the what he is singing about.
^^^ he got $90m in [s]donations[/s] bribes
ftfy

so hes only going to allow acces to media that reports what he tells them to
wonder where he got that idea from??

no preferential access and no permanent office space
Steve Bannon has both.
Changing of the guard media wise.
Great... only allowing access to friendly media that don't ask any awkward questions.
Why not just go the whole hog and go for state-controlled media?
Or is that something for his second term perhaps?
Trust me
With your track record 😆
Crikey Jamba you are now cheer leading for press censorship, tragic man.
Why not just go the whole hog and go for state-controlled media?
Because the media have worked out that's it's best for them if they do the controlling?
^^^ he got $90m in donations, would suggest he has mates.
🙄 I'm not sure you understand how political donations work...

Your problem, jambalaya, is the same as davidtaylforths- every now and again you overstep the line of believability, in this case by posting in support of this Wonderlandian situation, and you make it a little too obvious that you're trolling.
I didn't see jamba suggesting that he thought the media restrictions were a "good thing" - he just observed that they were happening.
With your track record
Crikey Jamba you are now cheer leading for press censorship, tragic man.
Track recodd is exactiy why you should is it not ? No smiley genuine question. I know you don't like the outcomes but "my" side of tye argument keeps coming out ahead. On Trump I said early he wouldn't win but a,so that once it was a 2 horse race he had as good a chance as Hilary.
Did I say I was in favour of press censorship ? I am the Hacked Off Campaigner round here. I was just point out there was a changing of the guard. Press are free to write what they like. Trump has no obligation to give preferential access to traditional media. His supporters would say they can listen to the man directly via Twitter.
EDIT: I see my post crossed with Graham.
I am not saying it's a good thing, what I am saying is it's probably not surprising. Fox has put a pro Trump anchor into it's main news programme, guess who is going to get the interveiws ?
I didn't see jamba suggesting that he thought the media restrictions were a "good thing" - he just observed that they were happening.
True, strictly speaking, but given that Trump is a) trying to restrict the media and b) jamba's new hero (alongside Nigel Farage), it's a fair conclusion to draw.
DrJ I am just trying to see the positives, deal with the situation we have got, not underestimate the man. I was definiteky one of thise who mocked the US for electing Bush, that didn't get me or the UK far though did it ? There cones a tine when you just have to acceptvthe resukt and work with the guy. I would do so on the basis he will be there 8 years too.
Jamba you also never recanted your claim that Hilary had had a stroke. You told an huge whopper and established a reputation for yourself as a fibber.
I find the way you always step back from outing yourself as a Trumer as some kind of crisis of conscience.
Trumps manipulation of the press is going to bite him hard.
On Trump I said early he wouldn't win but a,so that once it was a 2 horse race he had as good a chance as Hilary.
Just read that aloud to yourself. 😆 Was it a 50/50 chance?
And again you're `posting stuff without denouncing it, as a Trump supporter it's no great leap to think that you agree with Trump's decision making.
I am just trying to see the positives
What you see as positives most people see as negatives, that is the problem.
He hasn't got a single positive. He may do in four year time if he proves people wrong but at the moment he is just proving them right.
We have the perfect example of a compliant trump loving meeja should report him.
Goves toadying interview in todays times shows just how vacuous the future is ,- a 2 man circle jerk where Trumps obvious ignorance of the world goes unchallenged..

My mistake. I hadn't realised you are a world leader or a captain of industry who "has to work with Trump". I thought you were a random bloke on the Internet who is free to call a spade a spade. Or a misogynist bigot a misogynist bigot.
NATO is obsolete?!?
This from the next leader of the "free world".
Holy shit.
= :87(
****ity f**** fleck!
So nobody cares that the covers band aren't playing the inauguration at all? As someone, me, pointed out up the page they're playing a totally different event called the Garden State Ball, run by the New Jersey State Society.
But one side wants to use it to beat Trump with, and inevitably the other inexplicably manages to turn it into a victory for Trump and an embarassment for the other side.
Does he have enough musicians to play 3?
Oh yes, and you know, they're gonna be the best, i can't say who they'll be because, well trust me i know these people and they're great. and you know what, the mexicans will pay because, well trust me it's gonna just be great and it's gonna be great because people love me and..
I thought he had to resort to military band?
I thought he had to resort to military band?
Nah, it'll be a rubber band.
I care Northwind, keep challenging bullshit.
As someone, me, pointed out up the page they're playing a totally different event called the Garden State Ball, run by the New Jersey State Society.
Yep :
The B Street Band, America’s No. 1 Springsteen tribute band, agrees to play Trump inaugural ball
You can buy tickets for it here if you want :
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/garden-state-presidential-inaugural-gala-tickets-29015748886
NATO are obsolete, whenever there is an actual crisis they are next to ****ing useless , just like the UN peacekeepers.
And the B street band just pulled out. It's going to be Karaoke if anyone else quits.
Now that's embarrassing 😆
Is there a B Street Band cover band?
But how will trump be able to humiliate Springsteen now ?
In a statement, the band say: “With deepest apologies to our fans and the New Jersey Inaugural Ball committee, the B Street Band is withdrawing from performing at this year’s inauguration Gala.”
“Our decision is based SOLELY on the respect and gratitude we have for Bruce and the E Street Band. Bruce’s music has been the foundation of our livelihood. The B Street Band would not exist without the talents of Bruce and our E Street brothers.”
“We are most grateful to these rock legends and look forward to many more years of emulating and performing the Forever Music, of Bruce Springsteen.”
I heard that the P Street Band have been booked to play.
Meanwhile, Trump continues to inspire...
http://time.com/4635835/christopher-von-keyserling-sexual-assault/
But it's OK- his lawyer says "Von Keyserling playfully gave a lady who he knew for 30 years a pinch is what the accusation is. And somehow, everybody's wringing their hands and carrying on that this is a crime, and it just isn't."
Well I think we just have to accept the result and deal with the fact that sexual assault is now completely fine.
Unless you are actually American you were only ever going to have to accept the result.
Or were you planning to stage anti-Trump protests outside the US embassy?
NATO. Trump is putting a lot of pressure on NATO to up spending. Partly as he wants the US to have to carry less of the burden (understandable) and secondly a decent chunk of that extra spending will go on US produced military equipment. Then the focus argument pushes NATO to do much more counter terrorism which suits the US down to the ground. Win-win-win for the US.
Whatever you think of Trump this is good for UK not least as he is lighting a fire under NATO and the EU.
Unless you are actually American you were only ever going to have to accept the result.
Whoosh
why is it good for the UK ?
You're getting embarrassing - this sort of man crush is best enjoyed in private.
why is it good for the UK ?
Pay attention :
"he is lighting a fire under NATO and the EU"
I personally think that Putin can't believe his luck.
Also, interesting how internationalist the cheerleaders for Nativism can be, almost as if Nativism isn't about what is best for your own country, but more about the destruction of perceived common enemies. Well, I say interesting, but if you fall into their cross hairs, then that might be the wrong word.
Actually just seen this,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38642170
If the worlds biggest loser was mooted to lead NATO, then maybe it's time had passed
Any bets on trump lasting 4 years without impeachment or assassination?
Heart attack?
Autoerotic misadventure?
Messy divorce?
Nah it'll just be 4 years of blowing his own trumpet, fluffing up his property portfolio and angry tweets blaming the liberal media and congress for his many fsilures and broken election pledges
TJ I was willing to take that bet (even odds basically) but Chew pointed out you can do much better than that at proper betting companies.
As I said IMO he's going to win a second term in 2020
no sign of the #jambafacts explaining how it's not all embarrassing and humiliating to try and get elton john, fail, settle for tribute (fake) band, then have them pull out?
Chew pointed out you can do much better than that at proper betting companies.
actually it was pointed out TO chewie that betting shops offer odds. Still, facts and attention to detail not really your things, are they?
I'm assuming somebody is already writing the press release for the inauguration party as it's unlikely any free press will get the reporting right.
