He is a terrible leader, who , given a chance , would gladly start WW3.

I am no Trump fan but I don't think you can accuse him of being a warmonger. He has backed down from conflict with Iran, submitted to talks with North Korea, pulled troops from Afghanistan and now deserted the Kurds. Not the actions of someone that wants to start WWIII.

'Defense' spending up, as I'm sure it is a vote winner in the USofA.

Trump Tweet "United States has already taken the 2 ISIS militants tied to beheadings in Syria, known as the Beetles"

Trump justifies abandoning the Kurds: "They didn't help us with the Second World War. They didn't help us with Normandy"

He's doing the David Lammay 'I'm just reporting what people are saying...' thing. He precedes that statement about Kurdish hill tribes neglecting to help launch a seaborne invasion into occupied France from England  with 'Somebody wrote.....'

He forgets to say who wrote it or where of course.

If he was passing this off as his own opinion he'd use the phase "Not a lot of people that...." which is Trump's code for "I've only just learned that... <insert revelation that Uranium is used to make nuclear bombs or similar statement of the blindingly obvious>"

His stupidity and crassness continues to amaze me (ref: attempted ambush meeting at the Whitehouse), you just know he's surrounded by people too afraid to challenge him on ideas he gets and he's too dumb to realise how dumb his ideas are.

Partially prompted by this thread, I've been looking to further my understanding. If you've time, I highly recommend looking into historian Timothy Snyder and his take on the current political situation. Outside of his books there's lots of in-depth lectures online. This one isn't a bad place to start, giving some of the ground work before addressing the current effects within the US and UK:

That's very disturbing.

Also, (I'm no hand writing analyst) does anyone find his signature unsettling? It looks like the read out from a seismologists print out.

There's no flow or style, it's just jagged up and down scribbling.

Like it's uncontrolled anger.

I don't even understand how that can say Trump at the end?

“The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years to Ancient Rome."

What?

Is that letter real?

Many US journalists are reporting that copies were being handed out at a press conference by the man himself, in order to demonstrate that he had be tough with Pres. Erdogan

Trump signature samples from 2011

It looks like the read out from a seismologists print out.

Indeed.

The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years to Ancient Rome.

Are you not entertained?

Yeah, before seeing that signature I thought he was a wonderful fella and should be running one of the most powerful countries in the world.

Getting less powerful every day he's in office.

I'm sure there are 3 m's in that signature.
Donald Trummmp.

If he gets impeached and removed from office, for his sake, (nevermind the global impact it would have) it would be better if it happened sooner rather than later. Something spectacularly awful will happen to him in post what will either kill him stone dead or see him committed for the rest of his life. The madness of it all just doesn't appear sustainable.

Turkey stands alone now as the Russian, EU and America all do not support Turkey incursion. Me think Turkey is just trying to annex territory ...

So far today...

  •  Rick PerryTrump’s energy secretary who has become a central figure in questions over whether the president sought to pressure Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, is reportedly resigning.
  • Mick Mulvaney, the president’s acting chief of staff, confirmed that there was a quid pro quo involved in the delay of military aid to Ukraine, contradicting the president’s repeated denials. But Mulvaney dubiously argued the quid pro quo was acceptable because Trump was seeking an investigation of the 2016 election, not a probe of Biden.
  • Mulvaney announced the June G7 summit would be held at Trump’s resort in Doral, Florida, raising concerns that the president is trying to profit off his office.
  • Mike Pence announced the US and Turkey had agreed to a five-day ceasefire in Syria, but Turkey quickly clarified that it was actually just a “pause” in operations. Experts also criticized the deal for being overly deferential to the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
  • The US ambassador to the EU, Gordon Sondland, testified in the impeachment inquiry, privately telling House investigators that Trump delegated oversight of Ukraine policy to Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer.

The facts seem pretty much established beyond reasonable doubt. All they've got left is trying to discredit the 'process'. Which is an embarrassing nonsense given that there were a shedload of GOP representatives legitimately in those meetings because they were members of the respective committees.

Pathetic grandstanding, so business as usual for the Republican Party of 2019.

Post-truth politics innit. Every rightwing news source is carrying it as "Republicans crash into democrat secret meeting".

A dozen of the republicans storming their way in... already had a seat on the committee. So what they were actually doing by 'storming in' was turning up late. 🙂

It sounds like the GOP is panicking

No surprise to see Robbie Rotten from Lazytown is the Republican spokesman.

Well, the DC crowd is overwhelmingly Democrat but I think that people are beginning to realise that they've been duped.

Thing is, Trump is a useful idiot. While he makes a fool out of himself and grabs all of the attention, someone somewhere is working to slip something odious under the radar.

The key thing being packing the courts with hard right ideological judges. Select young(ish) people and you will have biased an arm of government for 30 years or more.

It's all in plain sight. He just handed the Middle East over to Erdogan, Putin, and Mohammed Bin Salman, as pre-arranged.

The thing is, the "America First" and " Make/keep America Great" rhetoric resonates with a lot of people. They will not see the formation of a Russia-centric power block in the middle east as a threat right now, only that the US troops are coming home as promised.

Never mind that this could increase instability in the region and, ultimately make the world a less nice place, 'we' are fine.

Trump is a very useful person for someone; whoever they are, they have played a blinder. It may even be that Trump thinks he is the one in charge.
