Idly flicking thru the channels last night, I saw some of 28 Days (sadly not a prequel to the British zombie caper...). A pretty terrible film, for sure (although I could happily watch Sandra Bullock all day - albeit with the sound off, to avoid the generally rubbish dialogue and plot).

But, blimey, it's really odd seeing Dominc "McNulty" West speak in his native English accent (hideously clipped in this film, no doubt for the benefit of US audiences).

I think you'll find he speaks with a fairly posh accent normally.

I always find it odd when you hear actors speaking in their normal voice. I remember hearing John Thaw speak and being surprised he didn't speak like Regan in the Sweeney.

One doesn't usually come out of Eton with anything else

Oh, I knew he was posh (and that he went to Eton). But his accent in this film was hideously, er, accentuated.

But then the US film industry has its own ideas about how Brits sound...

It was pretty damn awful in "Rock Star" too.
