My 8 year old border collie got hit by a car as he chased something across a main road. I spent 8 years working him all day on the hills with sheep every day. He was always with me.

Worst thing is I could of prevented it.

🙁

Sounds like you gavethe dog 8 good years. My mum used to say when its your time to go its your time to go.
The dog wouldn't want you to beat yourself up about it.
What an awful time for you.

Gutted for you pal

A horrible little hairy thing went for Jim the Greyhound last week- and he ran straight out of the park on to road, only good luck he didn't get mown down. I lost it with the owner, and she threatened to get the police 'cos I swore at her- stupid Daily Mail reding ****t

Sorry again for your loss, had a collie as a kid from being 5 till I was 21-proper member of the family

Oh no, you must feel terrible. I am so sorry. I was devastated when my last dog died and I truly don't know how I am going to cope when Missy dies.

On the positive side, it sounds as if your boy had a wonderful life, the best possible, so try to take some comfort from that. Also, he died in his prime, and you haven't had the slow pain of watching him decline into old age and illness (and have to make the call at some point).

x

My thoughts are with you. Terrible loss.

I know its easy to type but try to concentrate on his life and the good times he had.

I made a U tube vid of my dog when he died. It helped me.

Cheerys guys This month i've had another dog put down and now this. Gotta start looking for another pup but its wrecked the system because when this dog was around 7-8 i got a replacement pup so when the older one goes this pup will replace him but the pup isn't good enough yet

Ugh. Sorry mate.

Please don't beat yourself up over it though. Perhaps you "could have prevented it" but you had no way of knowing. Accidents happen. By that logic you'd never go out of the house.

So sorry to hear of this. Our two Collies died three months ago. Perhaps it was a little easier to take as they died from old age, but it's still bloody tough to deal with. Stay positive and think of the 8 years you enjoyed together. We've now got two 11 week olds from the same litter. We picked them up from Penybontfawr, just a mile from the Athertons' home village of Llangynog. There's new life in the house again and it's fantastic.

Sorry for your loss mate. Lost one of mine to the same circumstances, takes a long time to let go but you'll get there. Replay the 8years and try to forget the end is all I can say. Best wishes.

There are dogs all over the country that would give their left b*ll*ck to spend eight good years out all day in the countryside with the one they love. It's quality time that's important not how long they have with us. I really feel for you mate. Now go out and get another one, not to replace him cos you can't but just to keep the other dogs company.
We lost our Choccy Lab when she was only 10. She had been used for breeding for the first 5yrs and was pretty knackered when we got her. We gave her 5 great years. We even had a spend and save card for the Vets. Wouldn't change a thing apart from getting insurance next time. It gets easier over time. Best Wishes.

Condolences. As someone said above, it's not your fault so don't think that it is. Hope you can get started with the next one soon.

Cheers guys. Lambing could be a bit more challenging with a young dog
