I went from awesome ride around swinley forest today, the sky was blue the ground white with either frost or snow. Really enjoyed myself hammering around just the fire roads on my gravel bike. As I was by myself I thought that tackling the red route on my gravel bike might be a little bit adventurous ๐
One of the things I did notice when I finished was that there's an awful lot of people who seem to be able to go incredibly fast uphill on downhill bikes ๐ there was one segment where I managed to get a second or third place for this year but when I looked at the overall standings I could see that the top 20 people had somehow managed to go up that hill at 40 plus kilometers an hour. Now I consider myself to be fairly fit, and even on a gravel bike getting much more than 20 kilometers an hour up that hill was going to be a struggle. Quite some people managed to do 40+ kph up that hill on apparently a downhill mountain bike is absolutely beyond meย
Perhaps all of the riders at the tour de France when tackling the Col de la Loze - should grab a full downhill mountain bike rig as apparently that's the way to accelerate up a 17% climb at 40 plus kilometers an hour!ย
Hmmmm.
I wonder what it could be???
Strava has been full of dodgy data for years. The biggest mystery is that so many folk are willing to pay them money to see where they are in the dodgy segment tables.ย
Remember though - this is your data so if it is dodgy, it'll be you that has made it dodgy...
Will the top two people in the segment had speeds in excess of 350 kilometers an hour... Going uphill. I suspect that might be dodgy GPS. I'm just surprised that the reams of other people doing almost exactly 43 or 44 kilometers an hour up the same hill. Almost like their bike was reaching it maximum power output at that speed ๐ย
It would be interesting to see the link to the actual segment to see what has been happening. For what it's worth many off road (in particular) segments are pretty meaningless.
Strata is garbage. Who gives a ****.
Somewhere I've got a track showing I went uphill at about mach 1.ย Although I think that would have been on Endomondo rather than Strava.
Hey, my only remaining KOM is due to dodgy GPS data! Ridiculously fast, but just slow enough to beat the flaggers... someone even tried redrawing the segment to get rid of me...
