My Mrs has bust her iPhone 6 so our mate from work gave us an iPhone 4 that she had dropped in the bath but dried out. Once it was dried out the torch stayed on permenently ( a common water damage problem) I took it to a phone repair shop and they said they would fit a new camera and light for £18 which seemed reasonable. When I picked it up te light was off and I took it home and it had stopped charging. I took it back today and they said this is what happens with water damaged phones and it's for the bin?

What should I do?

Buy the Mrs a cheap Android phone and suggests she pays for accidental damage insurance 🙂

Did the shop demo it working, is it realistically the kind of place you could expect to have some degree of knowledge of customer service or trading standards or is it a dodgy back street outfit called Dodgy McDodgy Fix Your iPhone Cheap Innit?

To be fair I would expect a phone dropped in water to show up all sorts of issues, charging issues could easily be one of them. I'd at least expect a proper repairer to test before handing back including test charging.

Depends what it's worth to you.

Well it's called 'fone zone', and I'm pretty sure they think that's the correct spelling.

The 6 plus screen shattered, my Mrs took it to 'fone zone' and it broke again within a week, he did warn there was a dent on the edge of the phone and this might happen.

Stop taking things to fone zone. Tip 1

Back to the case in hand. If its been working then I cant see why after drying it would just stop. Check the charging port slot for lint. Use a paperclip and dont be shy. Report back

The 6 can be taken to apple for a swap out £250 iirc or I can put it into an undinted chassis, Im guessing the dint is even removable.

Yeah we can't afford £250 mate, we did go to apple afterwards and they said the same.

How much would you charge for a new chassis mate?

Id wait for a spares repairs one to come up on ebay and just swap your boards over as i guess you need a display too. Cheapest and easiest. Depends on how much I can get one for. Ballpark £150 returned, maybe cheaper if I get a bargain.

Do a hard reset see if the screen even gets the apple logo. Hold both power and home buttons, count to ten at least and let go of home button only. See if apple logo comes up

Yeah, known about that since the 5s came out. Easily avoided with a hairdryer.
Cheers though.
