do you like it or avoid it?do you ride with someone else or try your best to ride alone?is riding with your missus enjoyable or on the whole an annoying experience?do you secretly ride with a certain someone??
tell all....
and yes it was ment to be a leading question... 😆
do you secretly ride with a certain someone??
Yes. Your wife.
Captain, that comment was below you. And you know it.
Long time ago I used to ride bikes with a GF, it was nice to have a common interest but the routes had to be fairly tame and a bit boring (and slow/short) and she didn't show interest for progressing to more technical stuff.
Bit of a double edged sword, would be nice if my Mrs was into mountain biking but wouldn't want to be stuck riding with her all the time (it's not her, I like riding with other people but sometimes I just wanna go out on my own) besides not got enough room for any more bikes 🙂
mrsmw currently has 1 more bike than me (6) but has shied away from the harder core of riding although she does still own and occasionally ride a DH bike.
we like riding together which is handy as I have no friends 🙂
I'd rather not ride with my husband, but anyone else's? Now that's a leading question! Yes!
First choice is to ride with my GF, second choice is to ride alone. There are kinds of riding I like that she'd rather not do, so thats the kind of riding I keep back for when theres not an opportunity to ride together.
I'd rather not ride than ride with groups of other people whether its friends or strangers, thats my idea of hell.
i do like riding with the better half but at the same time if i get the chance to get out for the day i like to get out with my mates.
at home with the bairns most of the time so the cabin fever is an issue.
Despite being a generally competent outdoor person (hillwalking, climbing, kayaking etc.) my wife is crap on a bike and is quite capable of falling off on a flat smooth surface.
2010 is the year I'm going to try and get here more into it though, even if only to shorten the time taken to approach some of the more remote Munro's.
Wasn't the only thing beneath me!
😉
There are kinds of riding I like that she'd rather not do, 😯
Just start doing it with the GF. Do I like it as riding nope. Will I stop normal riding nope. But that is a better things to do as a couple than go into town and be a nice capitalist mutton. I see it more like a couple activity, like going on a motorbike I much prefer doing it alone, but I'd rather ride with her as a pillon than being drag in a mall.
Just came on here to say....
hur hur, riding
Fortunately no, as my gf has no interest in it. The thing is, it gets bad enough playing Burnout with her on the Xbox ("you're doing it wrong, go that way!") so I know it would never work biking either.
The wife rides with her mates and me with mine due to childcare. When we can we do ride out together which is great. Just not so good if she overtakes going downhill!
The only problem is that she sometimes likes a push up big fireroads and that's bloody hard work.
On the whole I like riding with my missus. She has a few health issues which means it tends to be slower and a lot more stop starty than I would like but it is still good to get out with the whole family. They all like the more technical riding rather than pootling along a tow path so at least it is interesting riding but it generally won't burn a huge number of calories. I do get to do a bit of riding on my own or with other faster and fitter people but overall riding with the other half and the kids is a good fun activity that we all enjoy.
Hubby loves riding with me, don't you dear?
As good a rider as they may say their other half is .. it still generally boils down to the fact they have few friends who mtb if they prefer to ride with the wife/gf.
My other half has been on a couple of fire road pootles with me, and thats about it.
I once met my dream woman on internet dating, pity I wasn't her dream man.
She attacked all the trails with fearlessness and she was as skilful as she was brave. And she was a pretty, petite girly.
So they do exist!
Highest bidder gets her phone number!
Wouldnt want to ride with my missus, wouldnt mind riding someone elses missus though, erm meant to say riding with! 😉
Yep - most of my mates arn't really into biking, or we are at opposite ends of the riding spectrum.
My Mrs races 4X & DH, and I race DH as well. We ride a lot of DH with a group of friends (both sexes) and do a few road trips into the Alps as groups.
Works well, the ladies get to ride together and most of the time the men split off, meeting up again a bit later.
I like riding with her but wouldn't want to do every ride with her. She's not as fit or as skilled as me so rides are shorter and easier than I would ideally like. But it's something to do together. She's tried to get me horse riding a few times but there's no way I could ride at her level in that sport so we stick to trotting around the country side which is too tame for someone who used to work as a Jillaroo in Oz.
Interestingly I used to hate paddling with my GF. Used to scare me. Wasn't that she was bad at it but I'd be nervous whenever she was running something hard or I was in the same group as her and we were doing something pushy. Don't get the same fear thing on the bike even though I've seen her do a fair few hard crashes.
I do loads of riding with my wife, and it great. We have a good larf, sometimes we argue, just like riding with a mate really.
Now, why do you ask?
SB
love riding with my wife, a few arguments the first month or so but now she is fit and can manage most trail centres and 4 hours on bike so its great, and we have been to france 5 times on holiday with bikes that would not have happened if she was not into mtb
First few times were very tense and usually had at least one blazing row per ride. To be fair since I gave her my old meta 5 she's improved loads and is willing to take on more technical stuff and I think she actually enjoys it now! Adds at least an hour on to any route but she doesnt mind me leaving her behind on climbs now we use walkie talkies:)
I love riding with my husband, even though he scares the s**t out of me sometimes. He is stronger and fitter than me, I am the voice of reason and do my best to ensure he doesn't damage himself (too much) more. I am always conscious that I am slowing him down on the hills and feel a bit bad about that sometimes. He is my regular riding partner.
I am usually the 'leader' when I ride with him or with our 'drinking friends' social group (generally blokes who don't ride as much as us), purely because I've ridden more routes locally.
Because of that I also love going out with the girls because they're far more experienced than I am and know what I am capable of, they can pitch their choice of ride at a level that's feasible for me but just challenging enough. It's an entirely different dynamic and I enjoy riding with them just as much, but in a different way.)
Then I can take that new knowledge back to my rides with hubby and the lads. (J's brother won't ride with us any more - he thinks we are deranged?!?)
I thought it would be a great idea... Bought her a decent bike, deore groupset etc. We went on a ride and I went hairing down what I thought was an easy hill to ride down, until she came down pushing her bike 15 mins later. Wasn't in her good books!
Went out a few times after, canals mainly. She did improve and manage to ride down a long shallow set of steps which was good. We had a few more rides until I need to borrow bits off her bike... Now it lying in our cellar in bits! Hehe. Don't think she's too bothered though. Prob sort it out for the spring and get her into the trail centre's.
Yes. tandem for the win
I do love the way my gf gets off her bike at every bridge we go under along the canal, she's scared she'll bang her head so gets off and walks under them, then tells me about it every half a mile or so...........infact just re-living it has made me tense, so it starts off with a smile and a laugh but after 20 bridges ends up frustrating... 🙄
