No. I've no idea what you're on about to be honest, but it doesn't sound pleasant.

Just sleep with the MiL and get it over with, she will be right as rain afterwards.

it's because many (not all) women have no hobbies. So they resort to gossip for fun.

My mother and mother in law are both pretty cool people. They support me and the wife in whatever we do. 8)

NOT advice I am EVER likely to take up....

My own Mother and MiL do my tree in always interfering yet SO cannot see Her Mother doing anything wrong yet mine is just a Dragon towards her, so she says

Sounds pretty familiar. Parents and OHs / OHs family can be a pretty toxic mix

My MiL is great, comes round looks after mini for the day, return to a clean house and all the ironing done as 'she gets bored' (I'm never That bored!).
My mother however is a nightmare, so I never inflict her on my wife. If I can't stand her, I see no reason why my wife should have to!

This is possible the greatest explanation for this phenomena I have ever heard ! And to a large extent very true in my experience.

If I thought I could have got away with it, my former MiL would presently be languishing underneath a patio.

The *ing bitter, twisted, *ing sour-faced, interfering, judgmental, holier-than-though, prissy *ing condescending *!!!!

my MiL does my nut in and can be dead weird at times, it causes quite a bit of grief in the household.

unfortunately, she's also a cougar, so

Just sleep with the MiL and get it over with, she will be right as rain afterwards.

probably has wings.

don't get me started on the SiL. hubba hubba

My mother-in-law is ace. By brother’s mother-in-law is ace.

My mother, on the other hand, is a bit of a nightmare. Saw her at the weekend and she was ranting about my brother’s MIL, who is one of the nicest people you can imagine. She’s kind, considerate, and compassionate. My mother considers her to be spiteful and manipulative, and a control freak – this is because my brother and his wife spend a lot of time with her side of the family, and less so with my mother. Her most recent crime was asking if my mother had any holiday plans this year. Polite inquiry? Casual conversation? No, this was clearly because she’s nosey and interfering, and because she wants to rub it in that my mother is a widow. “I feel like saying, ‘Mind your own bloody business!’”, says my mother.

Thirty seconds later she’s grilling me on my weight, and again reminding me that I’m like my nan – “You’re not fat, you’re just broad. I was always very slender and fine boned, can’t believe you’re so much heavier than me!”

Incidentally, given that she’s three dress sizes bigger than me, neither can anyone else...

We got to the pub, and there was a lady there using a walking stick and accompanied by a shih-tzu. We’re sitting there, talking about our respective dogs, when my mother suddenly comes out with:

“What’s wrong with your legs then?”

The woman looks slightly taken aback by this sudden turn in the conversation, and says how she has a spinal disease.

“So what’s that then?” says my mother. I look at her and say, “Mooooom!” and the lady patiently says, “Oh, it’s a long story”.

“Oh, nothing curable then?”

FFS, MOTHER!

Being asked by a family member if you’re going on holiday = a sign of incredible rudeness

Asking a complete stranger about their medical history in the middle of talking about something else = that’s polite conversation!

Sorry, slight rant there! 😛

My mum's only quirk is insisting that everything we eat has to be from a rare breed. It's like some kind of inverse vegeteriansim.

I'm not complaining, we had pork chops on sunday the size of chickens and the steaks (long horned highland cattle) good too, and the lamb (portland, and it gets to its first birthday so unlike supermarket lamb actualy tastes of something), and the vennison (allong with as much vennison liver as I can cook).

Dont talk to me about inlaws... ok ok im gona have a rant

They sit in the house all weekend, never venturing anywhere, i mean anywhere. Come rain or shine they sit indoors with the fire on. 25degreess outside they will have the fire on, and jeremy kyle.

They wont buy a car so they cant get anywhere except on busses which does my head in since there is only 1 per hour and city is nearly 2 hrs away. He refuses to get a car as there is no need apparently, "you can give us a lift he says"! He uses his dole waller connections as taxis paying people £5 here and there to take them shopping as real taxis are too expensive - I kid you not doesnt stop him going to club every night and spending £10-£15 there.

They constantly tell us how good their other grandkid is even though he is retarded and cant speak at 6, still wears nappies and is having behavioural issue.

He gets my wife to do his all xmas shopping for his Mrs and gives her money back in february, not in advance like you would expect, i tried to stop it but it all kicked off with the wife so gave up.

They have their tea at 4pm everyday, and its the same thing every mon, tues etc etc. So a thursday is always frozen pie from the freezer shop night. No vegtables, just pie, microwaved.

We were getting our kitchen done so they offerd us dinner, however they wouldnt budge from their 4pm slot so i didnt get any, expecting me to take day off work to take them up on the offer and got upset when i didnt go for said microwave pie.

They go to the same hotel in the same place every year, 1 in Amsterdam in September on the ferry for 2 nights as 3 is a "bit much" and have done for last 15 years and the same in Blackpool in Februray when they go for a "little break somewhere nice" (blackpool in feb in a b&b) and so he can go to the pigeon show.

We asked them - where do you eat in Amsterdam, any nice restaurants? Their reply was we went to Macdonalds one night and the next night we had a KFC. 😥

Each to their own and all that but i dont think i can stand them much more, i might just start ignoring their whole existance.

Edit and she is fat, as in 20+ stone fat but of course this isnt the reason she had a heart attack, nor was the 30 tabs a day she smoked. It was the governments fault apparently!

No, this was clearly because she’s nosey and interfering, and because she wants to rub it in that my mother is a widow. “I feel like saying, ‘Mind your own bloody business!’”, says my mother.

My mums a bit like this too at times. She's also a widow my dad died only a couple of years into marriage while she was pregnant with me.

Im sure if her life had been different then she would have been too.

You have to remember that if you dont have a big social circle or lots of interesting hobbys then passing remarks can seem like massive events in your life. This can lead to people over analyse them and if their not in a positive state of mind to begin with they'll often read the worst from the remark.

I remember I used to be a lot more sensitive about what people said when I was younger and I think part of the reason was I had a lot of time to examine issues.

Now adays I would nt have the time to be sensitive if I not working, im spending time with wife/building new kitchen if Im not doing that im cycling/football and then Im asleep. So I might not even notice if someone actually tried to upset me.

Plus their also is the fact that my mum would probably like my dad to still be alive so she could visit people/go on holiday/etc with him and it upsets her he isnt when shes reminded.

My mum is nuts but admirable. She did drive all the way from Germany to check I was ok when I finally ditched the awful ex (and probably to check that I wasn't considering taking him back). She'd spent nearly ten years biting her tongue about his crimes and misdemeanours as she believes in 'not meddling'. Bless.

Likes the new bf so 'not meddling' is probably much easier. That and the fact she's got her own business and is extremely busy - all the comments about people who don't have enough to do and end up obsessing and being weird are sooo true.

New bf's mum is very nice and shows no signs of meddling. I guess it's all luck of the draw...

My MiL is alright, but a combination of my mother being somewhat over-controlling with my missus being massively sensitive to being told what to do is not a great combo - especially what with our upcoming wedding. 🙁

I have to say it seems to be a bit of a feature of women in my family (brother's wife too and various other relations) that they like to plan/manage every last detail of everything themselves, and when things don't go to plan or other people disagree with their plan they get all pissy about it. Is this a general thing with women everywhere?

Best advice my dad ever gave me:

"Son, you are her only child, and no woman you bring home will ever be good enough for your mother"

Sadly, I fell in love with a stubborn mule of a woman who believes in fighting fire with fire and/or getting in a pre-emptive strike.

The sound of disappointment when I told my mum she was going to be a grandmother was awful - you could hear her on the other end of the phone thinking "Damn, he really IS staying with this one....."

My inlaws are alreet. We go camping with them and they're a good laugh and like a drink or two.

My partner's mum thinks the sun shines out my arse (she's right).

My MIL thought that too, until I sat and got hammered with my BIL one new year. I was found at 5 a.m., half on the sofa, semi-naked and bleeding, surrounded by broken ornaments and overturned plant pots. 😳

My mother knows better than to interfere with my life at the age I am,

My mother in law is a hero and a constant source of hilarity, I love her like my own. She doesn't interfere either.

Have nothing but praise for my in-laws.

The FiL lent me a five-figure sum to pay off my mortgage and wouldn't have a penny back in interest. He also brews his own beer and sends pints in my direction.

The MiL is very wary of me because I am the only man she's ever met who isn't frightened of her.

My mother in law is all right to be fair, but she does fuss about tidying all the time. Ordinarily I wouldn't object to this, but she keeps cocking it up and ruining stuff, so every time she visits I either have to buy a new waterproof jacket or a new dishwasher.

Erm my Mum has arguments with herself and the grass and most things that move too quickly, she's a bit bonkers tbh , lovely, but boomers bonkers.
MiL on the other hand is rather normal if a bit " DAILY MAIL" if you know what I mean.
