My newish (03) Disco TD5 will no longer start. Key fob deactivates alarm and opens car, insert key and turn key so that dash lights up, wait for glow-plug light to go out then turn key. All I get is a loud click from the engine so assuming something to do with immobiliser! Tried spare key and the same.
Any help and please no s****ing just because I was stupid enough to buy a TD5.
The loud click is probably the starter solenoid working normally, could be nothing more than a flat battery which then doesn't have enough juice to turn the engine over. Does the central locking sound lazy, does the glow plug light take longer than normal to go out? Try another battery or jump from another car
sounds just like when my battery died completely. wouldn't take charge from a new one, and went from being able to start to being dead literally after only an hour.
if the battery is really dead, jumping from another car wont work - you need a new battery!
Good.
All dashboard lights are bright. I did manage to get car started yesterday, after a day of not starting, by turning the key 180 degrees and then re-inserting but have not managed to start it since.
Edit - Central locking does not sound lazy and glow-plug takes the usual time to go out.
battery first, then glowplugs. If you can reach try tapping the starter with the universal adjuster (hammer)
I have only had car for just under 2 weeks and tbh I think it will go back to where I bought it!
