Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert has died. I used to like Dilbert and I assumed that Adams identified with the little guy against the pointy eared boss. Sadly, Adams later turned out to be more sympathetic to the boss than the little guy and Dilbert never recovered. Now he's definitely dead and gone. I miss Dilbert, he used to bring a smile to my face.

Agreed. I used to like Dilbert. It is a shame when idols have clay feet
I use a number of Dilbert cartoons in lessons about data analysis. They were sharp.
At least now I can feel sorry for him... he disappeared into a very depressing place in his later years, falling into ideas that must have made his life miserable, and most probably resulted in it ending sooner than it should have. Loved his work when I was living the office cubicle life in the early 90s.

while I broadly think that we shouldn't speak ill of the (recently) dead. Adams revealed himself to be a genuine ass hole. I don't think that should be ignored.
A loss to his friends and family if not, perhaps, to wider society. I enjoyed his cartoons enormously back when I drove a desk for a living.
While I'd given up on Scott Adams and Dilbert long ago (Adams was already expressing some worrying opinions in the early 2000s) the cancer that claimed him sounds like an awful way to go I wouldn't wish upon anyone.
I loved Dilbert (somewhat unsurprisingly) but Adams was a terrible human being. He was dropped by the newspapers a few years ago for being an unapologetic racist. The social media commentary (again, unsurprisingly) leave a sad legacy.

Nor I, but I doubt that self-medicating with animal worming tablets did much for his condition. Perhaps his 11th hour deathbed conversion to Christianity saved his soul, hey.
Fairly classic quandary of Artist Vs The Art and whether you can enjoy the latter despite the activities of the former.
Real shame, as with many on here I found Dilbert very sharp in it's prime but Scott Adams clearly went to a very dark place since then.
Feel sorry for those that loved him, especially as many would no doubt have been mortified by his descent.
I always find it sad when someone dies, well most people.
He was a divisive character, maybe he was troubled, or maybe he was just an arsehole.
IMO there are only two reasons why people spout and spread hate, because they're in a very, very dark place and the only way they think they can find a moment's respite is by passing it on to others call it, unresolved trauma, sadism or psychopathy. The worst kinds are the Trumps, Farages and Yaxley-Robinsons of the world, they don't even care to know if they believe what they're saying, facts don't matter, the opportunists, the manipulators and calculating self-serving arseholes of the world.
Adams seemed like the former.
It'd take Phineas Gage levels of "dark place" for me to be referring to the entirety of black people as a hate group.
Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s I bought all the Dilbert cartoon books. So many of his cartoons came true - US “corporate jargon”, unhelpful or non existent customer service and outsourced technical support…. the list goes on.
I actually stopped following Dilbert because it just got too much like real life.
I too massively enjoyed Dilbert even though I'd never suffered the cubicle work environment and I too was saddened that his apparent true self was unpleasant.
Happily, I am able to separate the art from the artist so I will continue to chuckle inwardly when a situation at work brings to mind a strip written years ago.
Poor Scott, his one final saving grace is that he accepted Jesus into his life and he mentioned that he is looking forward to meeting him
I imagine we’ll hear his howls of anguish and despair from heaven as he discovers that Jesus is non-white

yep, Used to love it, Isn’t this a classic case of don’t meet or listen to your heroes.
I suppose this is the issue with social media and the easy way the artist can now push every thought in their head directly to your feed.

Is that what RFK Jr prescribes for himself? All RepubliKKKans profess to be Believers, so it’s unlikely he, or any other cult members will be converting, they’re too far into the whole Rapture thing to go back now.
