Hi Folks,

This one is not the most exciting topic but someone here may have done this previously.

I have a Dell 7390 2 in 1 work computer, the type that you can fold up and use as a tablet. I was excited by the possibility of not having to carry and store paper notebooks going forward and to this end I bought the electric stylus pen to write digital notes on the laptop. What I have found is that the lack of friction when writing on the screen is not very natural and makes a real mess of my already crap handwriting. Also, quite often I'll be using the laptop to display a file or refer to maps or plans when I'm actually taking notes.

What I'm looking for is a device that I can 'write' notes on that will then saves my notes into Microsoft Onenote for filing. I have seen something called Remarkable 2 which looks perfect for the job but has very poor reviews for customer service. I have also seen Wacom Bambo tablets, but I'm not sure how easy that would be to feed into the laptop.

Does anyone have experience in this subject please?

Kind regards

Topper

I use the pro version of the bamboo but it's not great for handwriting because you can't see where you are writing. The have a new version called the Wacom one with a built in screen and that might be a nice choice but haven't tried it yet

Have you thought of a screen cover like Paperlike?

Ooh! Me me! I bought one of these on the Kickstarter (type) campaign early on. What can I say, I had redundancy money burning a hole in my bank account... anyway, for writing, drawing on the screen it was pretty cool - as they said, very similar to writing on paper. However, the operating system was junk, the processor power was pathetic and you couldn't help but think the money would've been better spent on something more established, with colour and the choice to go monochrome. It was odd to use something with just black & white, especially for the money it cost.
Obviously, this wasn't a "2", so maybe they have improved it.. would have to go a long way to make it worth buying imo though. ie complete redesign.

About your current set up - did you get the specific stylus for the device? I've found that makes a big difference.
Paperlike, above, looks great, but very limited device options.

Have you tried writing on an iPad with an Apple Pencil. Though out my life, I’ve always carried note books and enjoyed writing all sorts of stupid, useless notes.

But I’m very satisfied with the writing experience of the Apple Pencil.

But clearly, the surface you are writing on is still friction free, so I suspect you may not like it any better than your current pc.

There are notepads available with a fine dot grid printed on, you write on it and the pen picks up the movements and translates it into a digital format. Not the cheapest thing, and you still need a notebook; I believe there might be a version where the paper can be erased after they’ve been copied over. I can’t remember exact details, but a quick search should pull up something.
This might be of use, it’s an article about the advantages and disadvantages of analogue and digital note-taking, and hybrid variations thereof...

This is mentioned, it might be your best compromise...

I do exactly what you want using the combo of OneNote + iPad Pro + Apple Pencil. It is lovely...but not cheap.
