I'm always very impressed with some of the photos posted by folks on here, and I'd like to have a go at taking some pictures myself, other than with a phone cam!
So. How much do I have to spend to get something basic but useable, and does anyone have any model / make recommendations please/

I'm very keen on getting a panasonic GF1, bit pricey but crackin piece of kit!
I believe the canon s90 is the number 1 compact at the mo, although its a competitive market. Anything from the canon range will be decent same for panasonic LUMIX. Think all the good photographers on her use DSLRs which I know chuff all about.
Fuji F70 EXR.
Absolutely superb camera. You can control all the settings manually, or let the EXR function do it for you. Super wide 10x optical zoom too.
Got ours from Hong Kong via ebay, saved about 100 quid and got loads of free accessories
