after having a filling done over a week ago on my molar I've had quite a bit of sensitivity which is now a dull ache every time I eat and actually kept me awake last night.

Dentist filled it with amalgam - no temporary filling or anything like that.

I would feel a bit annoyed if I have to pay more for root canal etc.

what does the hive think about what I should do?

Can take a while for things to settle down IME but pain after a week doesn't sound good.

I'd be going back. If you need root canal or something else, you need it.

If you've no fever from an infection I would agree that it just needs time to settle down. Have you tried taking Ibuprofen for a few days?

I had an inlay done in a molar and it was sensitive for a good few months before I suddenly realised it hadn't bothered me for a while.

Could just be high. It only needs to be a tiny interference to cause quite severe problems. If it is that it's very easily sorted. The sooner you get it checked the less the risk of more severe problems. If you start getting pain with heat and relieved by cold you may well be in for a root treatment.

Dentist but now happily retired 🙂
