just wondering how you lot deal with pain.
woke up at 3am this morning shivering uncontrolably.
put some warm pj's on and ttried to mtfu.

at 6am i could not stand it any more.......think i have got a chill/cold/whatever.
sore head, aching limbs.......but my skin feels like it is onfire, and is very painfull to touch.
can't take ibuprofen cos of other tablets i take.
paracetamol have not worked.
ideas?

i try and deflect the pain, i tell myself 'this is pain' rather than 'i'm in pain'. i give it a volume and slowly turn it down. see it as red and slowly make it change to yellow. mental tricks, needs a strong mind. good luck.

Isn't that another way of saying MTFU?

Embrace the pain, pain is good and pain is a pleasure. 😈

Not really sure in your case Ton as I know your on other things
But high strength Co-Codamol works for me,after double hernia surgery just over a week ago the tablets stopped my legs shaking with the pain as I tried to have a dump for the first time.

I knew they were good gear as my lips went numb 10 minutes after taking
them.

Oh and its all very well saying embrace the pain but I know what its like in the early hours when your in agony (passing a kidney stone) everything seems worse.

This is not the time to man up. Get some proper advice and do it soon.

Ton, 2 things I've done in the past to get rid of a fever were;

Cold bath, not nice when you already feel like you're freezing.

Drinking flat lemonade that's been boiled ... trust me you'll sweat it out.

No I'm not having you on.

Pain is just weakness leaving your body.

You got an infection somewhere thats not obvious or a reaction to your other meds?
If you are in so much pain for no apparant reason I would go get checked out-failing that MTFU, and use a diversionery tactic the burning up pain shut your eyes and imagine yourself laying on a hot Carribean beach and the heat/pain you are feeling is actually the sun burning and tingling your skin-it works.

Depends...I doubt I'd take open heart surgery without being knocked out but I don't take anything for pain...I kind of just let it do it's thing whilst I get on with my thing - it's uncomfy as hell but I prefer not taking tablets (I'm on so many medications for other ailments that I'm not keen on popping more pills).

I've done this with broken bones and many ripped/torn ligaments but I think I do have a high pain threshold for certain things...

I'm afraid I'd just ignore it...

I take nothing for the effects of my chemo. To be honest, if it hurts, it means I'm still here.

Honestly? Man up, put the pain in a box, and put it away.

Dose of the man flu calls for a retreat to the man cave, at least for the worst of it. None of this working through it bollox. Lay off the ale, plenty of sleep and fluids and see where you are on Tues.

you will need:

a bottle of JD,
some cloves,
some honey,
some vinegar,
some salt,
some fresh lemons,
a saucepan,
a stove.

add all the ingredients in the correct order (chuck all in pan and put on stove)

heat up so simmers and mush/stir the brew

drink in half pint measures once its cool enough to drink.

lay on sofa watching old films starring James Stewart, Carry Grant or anything by Hitchcock under a large blanket/duvet.

repeat until better.
