Recently there seems to be a marked increase in the number of cars and trucks that seem to wander across from their lane and cross the right hand side line.

I had a long drive the other week and reckon that had 4 "near misses" from this.

I've had enough and want a dash cam so if there is a coming together then at least I will have some evidence.

There seems to be a huge difference in cost and quality.

Any recommendations?

I know this has been before but I can never get the search function to work particularly well on here.

On a recommendation from stw back in April i bought This dash cam, simple and despite being cheap it works perfectly fine with good resolution night/day when you view the files on your pc/mac.

I bought a dash cam hardwire kit (£10 or so) so i could wire it into the fusebox so that it comes on automatically whenever the ignition is switched

I use a Transcend DrivePro 200 and I get a really good picture/audio from it. I paid just under fifty quid when it was on offer at PCWorld (using TCB) but see it has gone back up to £80-90 or so. I'd say that's a bit too much but if you can get it for what I paid it's well worth it.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I've got a Blackvue setup, front and rear cameras, downloads straight to I phone, very discreet main unit is also the front camera hides behind the interior mirror.

Tiny rear camera. Most students who get in my car don't know if got it fitted till I point it out.

About £230 but it's worth every penny to me.

I've got a A118C dashcam with GPS module

http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_142025.html (GPS module extra, about a fiver).

Bought a hardwire kit too

Job's a goodun.

Great quality and easy to install.

i always try and get the most out of my phone, to justify its cost i spose. with that in mind its my phone (obv), my camera, my mp3 player (deezer), my satnav, and i recently discovered it can be my dashcam too!

havent set it up properly yet but ive installed a dashcam app, tried it out in my lounge to make sure it does what id want from it (it does), now i just need to actually connect phone to faglighter for power and actually use it.
obviously this is no good if you want something there all the time that powers up if someones nicking your car or somethings.

Mots insurance companies won't accept mobile phone footage in the event of an accident so be aware of that.

I have the one somafunk has too. I haven't bothered wiring the rear one in and it's still powered off my 12v socket. For the money I am happy. The amount of idiots doing ridiculous overtakes on my commute (how dare I stick to the speed limit) and the crash for cash incidents that happen on a roundabout near my work it's worth it IMHO.

I bought a Nextbase 512g after someone drove straight down the centre of the road and into me - I was driving a white T5 ffs - despite there being literally enough room to get a fire engine past.

It takes really decent quality footage, locks the relevant file if it detects an impact, also has a GPS so you can confirm location etc. Sits unobtrusively behind the rear view mirror and seems to do the job. Best Buy awards from Which and Autoexpress.

I wish I'd had one when the idiot driver rammed me, it would have made things a lot more straightforward. There's a growing population of frighteningly random older drivers out there who seem to have only the vaguest idea of how wide their vehicle actually is and of their position on the road. Bloody terrifying.

Just bought a Nextbase 312GW yesterday from Halfords and had it hard wired for £30. Very impressed with it. Picture quality is excellent and the unit itself is very small.
