Maybe if they'd focused less on the massive dildos...

I remember buying 'Vampyr' on a bit of a whim when it was about a year old, got a bit stuck so looked for some online tips/strategy type guides, and most of what I saw was people saying what a buggy mess it was... luckily it had had several game changing huge patches by the time played it so was never an issue.

On the otherhand, I bought bad company 2 on release, and aside from the occasional wtf bug, it was pretty much spot on... luck of the draw really I suppose.

Does make be wonder about the various business models in use though, so some outfits rely on big early sales to fund fixing known issues?

I know a few devs who work in the games industry, for some of the biggest names, and they are quite often frustrated and burned out nearing a big release or big expansion or a big patch, working crazy hours out of a sense of team play and commitment to a project for little reward to meet deadlines.

Being in the games industry sounds really cool and interesting, which I'm sure it is in part, but it's not as rosy... not nearly as rosy as it can appear from the outside. One guy I know much blames the collapse of his marrage on having to pull long days and 'all nighters' during 'crunch' periods to get products ready.

I was going to get this for my Xbox One S, but it's supposedly all but unplayable on that. It might be harsh, but from reports / reviews I've read it's ambitious but you need a next gen machine to play it like a last gen game.

I'm planning to get a Series X when they're back in stock, it might fixed by then.

Filed for my refund today. What a mess of a game, so many bugs and game breaking glitches.

I've put around 30 hours into this game so far (been off work since launch day). Playing on Xbox one s.
Yes it's buggy, but what new release doesn't have issues. My main complaint is the low frame rate and being thrown back to the home page when things get busy on the game.
I won't be getting a refund, because I can deal with the issues. The game is certainly playable, but far from complete.

Other issues I've run into are multiple of the same NPCs spawning and doing the same things in unison. NPCs and cars randomly spawning mid screen. Objects randomly ending up stuck in characters and no way to retrieve them.

Good things about the game are that it seems huge map wise. Level of detail in the game is high although graphics wise it's pretty poor, I'm guessing playing older gen console will be the reason for that. Hopefully I'll be getting the new Xbox soon so will report back on different it looks.

Would've taken 15 hours if the frame rate wasnt so low....

Sounds like a car crash of a game at the moment, hopefully they'll fix it, but I doubt it'll ever run at a decent frame rate on the one s.

Yeah a few bugs or issues is expected. What you’re describing though is a mess, I don’t want a game that regular crashes back to the start, a poor frame rate for the device it was released for or unplayable in parts due to bugs.  They’ve admitted themselves it’s not really suitable for last generation consoles like they promised without a major fix. Currently it won’t look massively different on the new gen as it’s not even optimised for those, there are plans though. Hopefully it will be the game it promised to be in a couple of months.

it's like the origeional Crysis all over again, it was realesed for hardware in mind that wasn't really commercially available, or at least didnt have wide spread ownership.

What's really funny are the low vs ultra settings comparison videos - there's barely any difference. Shadows, reflections and draw distances slightly improved but not enough that'd youd notice whilst focusing on playing the game.

So much for full fat raytracing.

Appartntley proper RT has a massive effect on frame rate (and subsequently a massive hardware overhead)... is it an elephant in the room, I wonder.

Why are people so obsessed with the next new lighting teqnique? is it really that good? buy our new hardware now to find out at a -40% frame rate!

Sorry, I'm being really cynical. 😉

Admittedly I am running the PC version but on an older 1080ti gpu and it runs fine for me and looks, IMO, pretty amazing. Yes, I’m noticing more bugs like weird physics when people die and cars etc appearing in places that they shouldn’t but overall I am still really enjoying it.

I’m finding that just pootling around and developing my own character is good fun and things develop accordingly. You get beef or kudos with various gangs or factions and Night City is just huge. The main plot just seems like one long tutorial and then the fun is doing your own thing - in that respect it is more RPG than any game I have played.

I will admit it seems very poor on last gen consoles though which is disappointing but at least CDPR have held their hands up and are offering a no quibble refund. That in itself is pretty rare these days.

well i bought the game on my old xb1 and asked microsoft for a refund on the saturday which they declined,so was slightly peeved to say the least.

have now contacted cd projekt red for a refund.

the game does look great on pc but the way it is now on old xb1 it needs a hell of a lot of work to sort out the issues.

a gaming pc is out of the question for me as is a next gen console too atm.

am sure the game will be great once issues are sorted out.

Shows you how behind the last gen consoles were - that PS5 video looks about the same as the low setting on PS5. You could buy a budget 500 quid gaming PC that’s actually in stock right now and it’d look as good as that. That’s put me right off the latest gem consoles.

The PS4 one is just terrible!

It’s not optimised for PS5 which is why it looks as bad a budget gaming PC.

it's a brand new game with new 'stuff', what made you think it would run well on an old xbox?

Developed for consoles and PC.

Or do you mean developed for PC and then converted to console use? From my basic understanding that’s. or such an issue anymore either with modern game engines.

I can't even imagine the internet connection you would need to play that game over Stadia. I got a Stadia when google wee giving them out for free played a few games but there was so much lag.

Looking at it probably dial up.

I await IGNs next review. They’ll give it 4/10 IGN are the most unreliable source for reviews. .

IGN are shockingly bad at reviews. Possibly as by all accounts underneath the mess is a good game, I will probably still get it but only when it’s a bargain and working fully.

I ended up taking the plunge and got the free Stadia offer. All in, it cost me £50. I had no gaming hardware at all, so it's a cheap and relatively risk free way to get stuck in.

Only a few hours so far, and no bugs or glitches at all.

I can’t even imagine the internet connection you would need to play that game over Stadia

The internet connection I'm rocking is 65Mbps. Using this and the free sub to 'Stadia Pro' I can play on my tele at 4K and HDR seamlessly.

It looks amazing, like watching a film and there's no discernible lag. Sounds great too - especially the cars as you raz about the place.

Parts of the game are quite hard though! But all in all, well pleased.

I won't be asking for a refund and handing it back.

Streaming must be the way forward. There's a PC as big as a house somewhere running my game. I presume even if you have a fancy pants console or PC there'll still be lag if the internet connection is poor, so the key challenge is connectivity. I'm lucky I have decent, cheap BB.

Not a massive gamer, but for a few quid a month, it works for me and much cheaper / less cash intensive than laying down for a console or PC.

YMMV

it does make buying a new console or buying/upgrading a PC, downloading patches etc sound pretty old-fashioned. Don’t think my internet connection would handle it though, and I can’t get FTTP yet. Imagine being able to play next-gen console style games on a tablet over 5g though, definitely the future!

Probably not, all that (esp. High def) streaming is not very good for the environment.

But in fairness, rather better than each user having a dedicated console brimming with rare earth metals that has a lifespan of little more than 5 years! Not to mention each user's own console drawing power to do its own electronic gymnastics in rendering high def graphics.

Streaming is the (much) lesser evil from an eco perspective, but still an evil.

Whilst it's not the prettiest game in the world even on my PS5 and it does have a lot of bugs (crashes out of the game once every time I've played it so far.) It's still a great game and not since Red Dead 2 have I thought I would play one mission and it take 3 hours to get to the start of it as I'd got caught up in a load of side quest on the journey over. If you've got the hardware to play it on the latest console or PC or the bandwidth to play on Stadia and you like open world games I'd definitely recommend it.

Not really no given it doesn’t use a internet connection. There’s a few single player games use server side but not many.

By a little more it’s around 10.

I sorta agree with this, I would much rather have a Stadia plugged into the back of my TV with a few controllers than a mini fridge aka Xbox series x in my living room or that mess that is the PS5.

this urban myth was pretty soundly de-bunked by More or Less (BBC podcast - although apparently no-one at the BBC listens to it as they keep repeating the myth in other “news” stories)

It makes no sense when you actually thing about it - there can’t be anything much more efficient to transport around the world than data, and I bet there aren’t many places run more energy-efficiently than data centres, plus companies like Google invest massively in wind & solar.

Eh? Can't think of any launches 10 or more years apart.

People may keep them 10 years, but the industry assumes they'll be obsolete in 6 or so years from purchase. And Microsoft seemingly less than that if you had the red ring of death.

PS(1) 1994
PS2 2000
PS3 2006
PS4 2013
PS5 2020

XBox 2001
XBox 360 2005
XBox 360 Elite (HDMI) 2007
(XBox 360 S 2010)
XBox One 2013
(XBox One S 2016)
XBox One X 2020

Nintendo surprised me with more frequent updates than I thought... Maybe they always just seem 'old'? Except the SNES of course, which is timeless.

SNES 1990 (wow!)
Nintendo 64 1996
GameCube 2001
Wii 2006
Wii U 2012
Switch 2017

Why are people so obsessed with the next new lighting technique? is it really that good?

It can be and will be but the hardware is not at the point where you can really use it properly. There is too much of a hit in AAA titles.

They support them long after the launch of the next gen. Last game for the PS3 was only a few months ago.

Well there's always not transporting anything 😉

It's not especially dirty, and it's getting cleaner. Presently though, it's the vastly increasing volumes we're moving and storing that's the issue and to some extent the volumes of hardware to support it.
