MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
I sold a mobile recently (an expensive one) and I was surprised at the number of questions about postage to the Ukraine, Poland, Slovenia, etc.
The guy that bought it is in Poland.
I've no problem taking his money or charging him the extra to post it, just wondered why the interest was mainly from over there ---->
exchange rate?
scam
I'd be thinking what pete is thinking
My missus had someone hijack her Ebay account who tried to sell software. What was amazing was the hoops she had to jump through to change her name when we married. It was a nightmare, yet someone managed to hack in. I don't get it, but shows that the criminals are one step ahead of the "goodies".
There is a scam whereby they pay using paypal, you send the goods and then they file a goods not received claim with paypal and get their money back. You cannot easily provide a proof of delivery report because the goods were shipped to Poland/Ukraine etc. so they get the goods and their money back, you lose both.
could be a scam, could just be someone wanting a phone and taking advantage of the exchange rate, on ebay i think if people have a good record you should try to trust people

Fair enough. Just make sure you insure it when you post it so you aren't left out of pocket.
My Brother-in-law sold his old Freelander on Ebay to someone from Poland.
He was understandably a little concerned; however the chap paid a deposit via PayPal & turned up at his door with the balance in cash a few days later...!!!
What's the difference between a Nigerian email and an ebay transaction?
The Nigerian email only has a scammer at one end

If you're careful and hold to the truism that if it looks too good to be true it usually is you should be okay. There's more trust and risk involved using the classified here if you're not buying / selling to a known forum member, especially since the hack and raft of different usernames. The whole 'paypal as gift' thing also means that you've got no recourse from that end either.
On ebay the only issue I've had as a buyer (or seller) is someone sending me some glasses frames in a plain envelope and them arriving in pieces. As a seller you just have to restrict buyers to those with enough 100% feedback, make sure everything is sent recorded delivery (and insured if it's worth over £36) and that it goes to confirmed addresses only. If someone wants me to send it abroad then I only ship to those countries with trackable mail / proof of signature their end. Just common sense really.
Can't really see a problem with it. If someone wants the goods to be sent to him, and agrees the postage costs before and is willing to pay for it than why not. Can't assume that if someone wants You to post goods to Poland is equal with trying to run a scam on You or something similar. You'll get scammers in every place on earth and I never had any problems when sending stuff abroad, only twice someone from UK bought something and never paid for it.
About the interest with mobiles especially fancy ones. Everyone likes nice toys and as exchange rate of Polish Zloty to £ is not doing any favors the price in UK for some goods does. You will sell a fancy expensive mobile here for less as there are probably quite a few of them up for sale as You only need to take a £20-30 contract to get a top of the range model. In Poland on the other hand when You want a nice handset than You either pay very high line rental or pay a normal line rental but pay loads for the phone. My mum was on a business plan and was paying £60 a month (using current exchange rate) and still they wanted her to pay about £50 to get a Nokia 6230 (it was few years ago) 🙂
Plus if You're a technology geek and You need newest shiny stuff than unfortunately You need to shop abroad as the launch dates for Poland etc are always later then here or lets say Germany.
Been selling a few Xbox360 games recently, and despite putting UK only on the auctions always getting interest from Portugal, Germany etc. Putting it down to, for them, favourable exchange rate. Sold to a guy in Portugal last week and all seems ok so far.
This thread is unbelievable !! Why should it be a scam just because the interest is from abroad ? Are all foreigners crooks or something ?
I sell a fair few bits on Ebay and lots of it goes to Europe. Why ? Because the pound's so weak. End of story.
We used to get Poles buying up pay as you go phones in O2 shops and shipping them to Poland as they are just a lot cheaper here. I guess it must still be the same and it's just a Pole on the lookout for a bargain compared to the local prices
Errr - guess what, people in those countries actually use mobile phones too fellas. Moreover, they actually have stuff called money aswell 🙄
Agree with trailmonkey, is it not obvious what Guilliano said. Motorbikes in the Uk are apparently much cheaper than in some of the European countries like Germany, though as I don't live there I cannot confirm this.
Perhaps as Guilliano says, it cause phones are cheaper here. Or maybe the particular phone the OP is selling isn't available in Poland, so therefore there's a lot of interest from Poland etc.
currently our exchange rate has brought attention from overseas, but it also does bring a few issues. I believe the latest one i heard about a phone was someone sold one on ebay, person receives it, posts a paypal claim as not as described, and says going to post it back, but only sends the box and accesories, keeps the handset, now they have post of postage, but you wouldn't know unil you open it and you have to sign for it before you open it. Not common but paypal are as useless as ever at dealing with it, person i know only got it sorted as had weights of parcels there and back and was 100g different (the phone) and so was going to small claims the dude, but paypal didn't really care...
