Last night i managed to sit on my mate's favourite felt hat, crushed flat-- it is now full of creases---any advice to restore it most appreciated...

Steam? Try reshaping it over a boiling pan of water or a kettle.
Mind you don't burn your hands.

Those that know what they're doing use steam - I'd take it to a posh hat shop!

Steam and a last, don't soak it but make sure it's damp enough to mould.
Or turn it into Yarkshires finest..
A flat cap.
