Just to really rub it in, it isnt enough for ****stan to hammer us in two Tests, they then have room to throw a match.

Heh heh. I reckon there's some very pissed off and suspicious bookies at the moment!

If we can bowl em out for under a hundred we might only be trailing by around 40 runs going into the second innings!

So - a series whitewash and a poor performance allround.

luckily losing that match means we no longer have to call ourselves "no. 1 in the world" anymore

Not true - we're still officially #1 and we'll only lose it before we play again if SA whitewash NZ (actually strictly they need to wrap the 3rd test up inside 3 days, otherwise we'll have already started our next test against SL). If SA do manage that, but we then win the SL series - which has to still be a possibility, given their attack is nowhere near as good as ****stan's - SA will have the shortest ever stay at #1 of under 2 weeks.

The thing is, we might have been thrashed here, but we've still had a fantastic set of results over the last couple of years, which are counting towards the ranking. The real shame is that ****stan have no more test cricket this year (whilst England have 3 more series) - I should think most sides would be a little scared of facing them right now.

I disagree: our bowling has been consistently good throughout the series. The fundamental problem is that none of the top 6 batsmen have averaged over 30 - you will never win a match with those stats.

The only satisfaction I can take is that it will wipe the smug look from Cook's face.

I can't exactly pinpoint why, but I detest him.

In fact, add Strauss so that list.

Good to see Monty back but no doubt he'll be dropped for the next Test.

Though our number 7 did! Worse than that - the middle order (4,5,6) scored 200 runs between them over 18 innings, averaging 11.1 between them.

The whole series has the same characteristics.

Bowled well, at times very well.

Fielded ok, no better.

Batted very poorly throughout.

Both 2nd and 3rd tests were there for the taking and we threw them away. Some SERIOUS questions need to be asked now of Morgan, Bell, Pietersen etc. If top quality spin is the problem then this year is going to hurt. A lot.

Not necessarily - who are the top quality spinners in the sides we're facing the rest of the year?

Ok, I'll rephrase that. If test quality spin on receptive pitches is the problem then.... blah blah
