Anyone on here happen to know how long credit card companies can/will keep records of old transactions? Called Barclaycard call centre 3 times & got a different answer each time.
Last I checked they have to keep data for 7 years.
Back when I worked for an IFA we were legally obliged to keep data for six years, though that was over a decade ago now. I'd expect that it would be at least that length of time for a credit card company.
The six years thing usually comes from six years being the maximum time someone can bring a damages claim for (subject to lots of exceptions). Lots add a year to give the complaint time to work through.
Maximum time a credit card company will keep records for? Well you're legally entitled to be told, but they'll all try to wriggle out of doing so.
I thought the six previous years + current year was for VAT reasons?

If you want to be a pain about try a Subject information access request and then they will have to provide you with (almost) everything they hold about you
