[#10880296]

Got a feeling this question has been asked before but it came up in a discussion with my wife last night. It has become clear she thinks I have a shoe habit, one that I blamed entirely on running. She pointed out the vast amount of non-running shoes I own and I struggled to have a come-back...

My count looks like this:
Running shoes - 13 pairs
Casual trainers - 7 pairs
Dress shoes - 8 pairs, 3 black, 2 oxblood, 3 brown
Casual shoes/boots - 4 pairs.
Flip-flops/Sandals - 5 pairs
Walked boots - 2 pairs
Cycling shoes - 3 pairs
Others sports shoes - 4 pairs

Please tell me I am not alone in this behavior...

I've no idea but it's no where near the amount the OP has.

13 pairs of running shoes! Why?

13 pairs of running shoes! Why?

We are way past any logic here, though i will try.
2 pairs of trail shoes - 1 for really muddy stuff, 1 for firmer ground.
5 pairs of Nike Pegasus 34's - 1 shield waterproof pair, 1 pair that are basically worn out, 1 pair in their prime, 2 pairs that I bought dirt cheap in the sale as this model has now been discontinued.
1 pair Nike Pegasus 35's that I don't really like but are to good to throw away
1 pair Asics Cumulus that are lovely soft things that are great for recovery runs and not much else
1 pair ON CloudFlyer that I've never got on with and so are relegated to gym work
3 pairs various other models that I've not gone on with and are relegated to casual wear

probably too many but I tend to keep old shoes until they hole, hang or both. Sensible ppl would probably own 1 x pair of trainers unless competitive multi-terrain athlete.

8 pairs

2 dress shoes (for weddings funerals and interviews)
1 pair casual shoes because comfort
2 x training shoes
1 x Crocs for slippers etc
1 x waterproof walking boots
1 x skate shoes for biking etc

2x work boots
1x walking boots
1x riggers
1x trails
1x runners
1x riding/general purpose trainers
1x everyday wear dealer boots
1x flipflops
1x ruggedised sandals for when flipflops won’t cut it
1x canvas sketchers for summer
1x shimano spd shoes (dusty, somewhere)

I think that’s it. I feel a little underbooted, although where you lot keep all your shoes is beyond me 😳

3x nice trainers
2x grubby old trainers
1x reasonably tidy boots kept at work
1x nice autumn/winter boots
1x dress shoes
1x cool suede Clarks
1x old hiking boots for the cycle commute
1x good hiking boots
2x flip flops
3x old shoes/boots under the bed that I should probably get around to throwing away

one of the pairs of 'nice trainers' has just developed a hole by the little toe, so they will soon be relegated to 'grubby old trainers'.

Hmmm....probably more than I realise.

Smart Shoes:
1 pair under my desk at work (>6yrs old)
2 pairs at home that barely get worn (one pair about 10 years old & the other 3 years or so)

Trainers:
1 pair of Brooks running shoes (about 3 months old)
1 pair of Brooks running shoes - about to turn into my odd-job gardening shoes (over 10 years old)
1 pair of Nike air that were odd-job gardening shoes & need to go in the bin (over 10 years old)
1 pair of Nike Air Huarache (about a yr old)
1 pair of completely black Nike skateboard shoes that I wear to work (about a yr old)

Other Shoes:

1 pair of brown Chelsea boots (6 months old)
1 pair of Hi-Tec hiking boots (~13 yrs old)
1 pair of Dunlop wellies (~6 years old and purchased for the 24:12)
1 pair of Primark slippers (~two years old & quite pongy)

Cycling Shoes:

1 pair of Shimano road shoes (at least 6 yrs old)
2 pairs of Shimano mtb shoes (one pair about 10 years old, the other about 8yrs old)

So, 15 pairs in total.

You're not alone at all. My girlfriend has a similar opinion about me!!

Bike shoes - 3 pairs
Running shoes 1 quite knackered pair that really could stand to be replaced
walking shoes/ boots - 2 pairs
trainers - 3 pairs in regular use, 3 pairs not really being worn anymore but could be if required.
Dress shoes - 3 pairs, 2 black, 1 dark brown (arguably my favourite shoes). I would have more dress ones but sadly don't get an awful lot of opportunity to wear them.
Casual shoe/ boots - 4 pairs
pool/ campsite shoes - 1 pair
Other - 1 pair trainers & 1 pair bike shoes that pretty much stay at my parents house for when I visit

If i count all the brand new unworn pairs boxed at the back of the wardrobe, bought in the sales as the next pair, then I have a LOT less...I probably don' need to buy shoes for 10 to 15 years!
In use...still too many.
1 pair each of chainsaw boots, standard wellies, steel toe cap work boots, flip flops, slippers, bike shoes, trainers, converse, 2 x brown leather smart shoes with leather sole, black smart with leather sole, black smart with rubber sole.

count the spares and well...over twice as many I'm sure.

I'm as bad with coats...I don't need to buy another coat so long as I don't change shape!

My count looks like this:
Running shoes – 13 pairs

I would concur with her.

1 pair Nike Pegasus 35’s that I don’t really like but are to good to throw away

What are you planning on doing with them?

I'm lucky in that I have a big cupboard in my bedroom where I added some racking that means they all fit nicely. There cycling shoe live in the garage.

Then again...

1x Gym shoes at work
1x Road SPDs by turbo, rarely worn
2x road SPDs, one new one old
2x mtb/xbike SPDs
2x 5.10 flats, one new one beaters
2x work/casual shoes
1x desert boots
1x trail runners/approach shoes
1x running trainers
1x hiking boots, rarely worn
2x old brogues, work really
1x pink suade teddy boy shoes, weddings, parties, anything. Not worn for 2 yrs
1x big fake walking boots
1x desert boots
2x casual shoes not for work
2x smart black work brogues, not often worn, 1 pair needs resoling
1 nice pair paul smith brogues
2x climbing shoes, 1 pair too small for comfort. Various other knackered pairs about the place.
1x flip flops
1x sandals

decent DMd I'm aware are in my boys rooms but no desire to go in and search.

So yeah OP, you have a problem. So, it would appear, do I. 40ish?

Thing is past a certain point you buy stuff faster than it falls apart, so it (literally) piles up.

So 14 pairs of casual footwear.

Correct, but they're different uses in my head, hence splitting them.
Casual trainers are things like Converse
Casual shoes are generally leather but not smart enough to wear for work
3 others are old running shoes that are worn casually as I don't like running in them.

All worn on different occasions.

Let's see. I have:

A pair of Salomon approach shoes, worn daily.
An old pair of the above, used when I'm likely to get them filthy (primarily on the bike).
Black Hush Puppies for work.
Brown brogues bought for my wedding day, probably worn twice since.
A pair of Berkies for summer.
A pair of sandals for bumming around the house in.
An ancient pair of Doc Martens which get used occasionally for things like decorating (I'm 99% sure they're actually my old school shoes).
A pair of New Rock boots from my (rock) clubbing days, used for the odd gig these days but they're uncomfortable so that's not very often.
A pair of supermarket-special Converse-a-likes which I bought because I fancied trying something different, not worn very often because the soles are like paper.
Two pairs of rock-climbing shoes (a comfy pair for general use and a painful but more technical pair for the tricksy stuff).
A pair of running shoes (Brooks Vapor 3 if anyone cares) in toxic green and silver. Why does no-one decent make black ones any more FFS?
Oh, almost forgot, Berghaus walking boots.

So that's 13 I think, all with different purposes.

30odd replies, hundreds of pairs of shoes listed and no-one's admitting to owning golf shoes?

I take it this is a minimal administrative process rather than full declaration?

christ, I thought I was bad but clearly I'm an amateur.

1 x duck boots for walking the dogs.
1 x hiking boots
1 x cycling shoes
1 x wellies
1 x birkenstocks
2 x summer shoe things from Trunk Clothiers. I usually get about 1 summer out of these and then in the bin. Bought two pairs this year and they're both good for next year as a result.
2 x NB MT101s for running.
2 x barefoot things for yoga.
1 x smart boots for work.
4 x smart work shoes (1 country brogue, 1 x wholecut oxford, 1 x derby and 1 x half-brogue).

..and about 3 pairs of old trainers for knocking about doing DIY etc in. Oh, and some wetsuit boots.

I did a rough count from memory and got to 41. There's probably some that I've forgotten.

A fair few of those are duplicates of shoes I like for when the current ones wear out.

My plan is that when I've bought all the things I could possibly need for the rest of my life, I can retire.

5 x pairs of Vivo Barefoot shoes in various guises.
1 x pair of Vibram Five Fingers.
1 x pair of Merrell Trail Gloves.
1 x pair of climbing shoes.
1 x pair of Five Tens for flats.
1 x pair of Specialized MTB SPD.

I’ve been thinking of whittling that down, but now I’m starting to feel under stocked compared to most of you. Vivo shoes are ruddy expensive too. Luckily they last ages. Can’t wear normal shoes now though as they are just either plain uncomfortable or feel very odd.

Mavic SPD
Post cycle muddy driving shoes (old running shoes sans laces)

Other Sport:

I think that's 18

I'm a shoe lightweight by these standards:-

Bike shoes x2 (only because I've just replaced them and haven't thrown the old ones away yet)
Casual trainers x1 (all I ever wear from spring-autumn)
Slippers x1
Hiking boots x1 (winter use only)
wellies x1 (but never wear them)
ski boots x1

3x pairs cycling shoes (2x shoes, 1x GTX boots).
2x pairs sandals/slippers (forgot them one year skiing and had to buy another set for the chalet)
1x Pair lifting shoes (raised heel)
1x Pair CF shoes (Nanos)
1x Pair cheap gym shoes
2x Pairs GTX walking boots (one winter, one summer)
2x Pairs 5.10 Approach shoes
2x Pairs Salomon trainers
1x Pair wellies in shed somewhere with a family of mice living in them
2x Pairs dress shoes
1x Pair vaguely smart boots
1x Pair casual shoes
1x Pair ski boots

So 20 pairs in total I think..

Wife has probably over 50 pairs, if not more.

Does seem very excessive, I must give some to the local Charity shop....

A pair of 'approach' shoes that do for bike commuting, dog walking, cycling, if it's wet, gardening, etc.
A pair on Vans.
A pair of Tom's boots for work.
A worn out pair of DMs.
A pair of running shoes for running.
An old pair of running shoes that live at work for at-work exercise things.
An old pair of approach shoes that live by the back door as communal garden shoes.
A pair of 'posh' shoes for weddings, christenings, etc.

So, eight.
