My brother is over in NZ at the moment travelling and is taking copious amounts of photos. he's got a flickr account but has gone straight up to his monthly limit.
I have a unused website with unlimited space and bandwidth. So i'm thinking of putting a flickr style photo gallery on there for him to upload all his photos to (keeping the size/quality). then let him and others view and download etc. He might want another area for his nights out etc to be kept away from parents, if that can be an added option

Can anyone help me out here? Are there any free bits of software I can bolt onto my website to allow this. I've put a free phpbb forum on there before so that sort of setup would be ideal?

What is the monthly limit on Flickr?

Edit: Just had a nosey... I take it he's running on the free version of Flickr? It would be simpler just to outlay the US$25 to get a Pro account which gives unlimited use.

"When you have a free Flickr account, you can upload 2 videos and 100MB worth of photos each calendar month."

pretty easy to top that while travelling

I think Photoshop elements has a tool to help build a web gallery?
I'd just cough up for the Pro gallery on Flickr though, it's a great site - easy to use, has built in editing and is addictive fun looking at other peoples pics! there are some incredible photographers on there.

Check out http://www.zenphoto.org/

As long as your server supports it, you unzip, upload, run setup.

From there, simply add a folder of photos to the album folder and they automatically appear in the gallery! Loads of options and upload can be done via FTP or direct through the admin panel from a web interface.

Flickr pro account is cheap as chips (considering the backup, multiple redundancy, software involved) so IMO its more than worth it, and I'm just a happy snapper.
