MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
So round here we have no bin men as the roads are to icy,the bus station staff seem to have disapeared,as ther e are few buses,no one to tell the public what buses are running, the schools are closed, and basicly most of the other staff cant get into work so they say.
So why dont they all get issued with a spade and told to clear the roads,so they earn their pay.
Council workers not working, and we are paying them
😕 Are there actually any council workers left ......... I thought all the services had been privatised ?
We stil pay the council to provide the services.
Neither are the teachers.
Nah Rossendale has some ex 1950's east European apparatchiks left, trying to get any sense out of the lot of them is useless.
Mind you the council was awarded a made up bo^^oc4s award in 2007 so that makes everything Ok.
Not much of a rant I know but its the best I can do after 3 weeks of trying in vain to get my bin emptied !
....saying nothing! So why dont they all get issued with a spade and told to clear the roads
Hey Project, why aren't you out clearing roads rather than whining on this forum? Where's your sense of national pride? 🙂
Not much of a rant I know but its the best I can do after 3 weeks of trying in vain to get my bin emptied !
Put bags in vehicle, drive to tip. Sorted.
bin men were probably too tired from gritting roads last night
Perhaps one of the teachers could pop over and help with your punctuation.
Probably because they aren't insured to do anything other than their stipulated job and so if one or two had an accident then "you/we" would end up paying a lot more out in compensation.
Is anyone else who can't get in to work getting a shovel and clearing footpaths/roads etc? Not round here they aren't.
Are you at work getting paid? Does your job describtion include trolling on a MTB website? Or do you get your pay docked for time logged surfing and not working?
Or are you like me jobless and so free to troll the net?
Or have you been unable to get in to work yourself? If your company is docking your pay/holidays/making you work the hours missed? If so then maybe it's ok for you to knock other people.
Isn't there a saying about people in glass houses.
Put bags on bike, ride to tip. Sorted.
Anyone who doesn't make it into my work (council) has to use annual leave or make up the time. So they're not really being paid for doing nothing
Not sure using the term 'spade' is appropriate. It can cause real offense to minorities.
We stil pay the council to provide the services.
I believe that they're called "contracts" now. If the work isn't completed, then the contractor isn't paid. Plus, the contract is awarded for a specific task, so you can't just demand a contractor does a job which they haven't priced for, ie, you can't get one person to do a completely different job.
Sounds to me, like you're harking back to the bad old days before privatisation project ........what are you - some sort of socialist ?
I dont have a shovel now, someones just nicked it,
Im self employed, and the phone hasnt rung for a few days,so not getting paid,
Anyone got a spare spade.
My bins are collected every Tuesday, recycling ones every Monday, neither have not been missed yet, so full marks to them.
But then again Grampian Regional Council is a bit more accustomed to a bit of bad weather unlike down South, as I said a few days ago it's not any worse than some years gone by, it's just that it's stayed with us a bit longer.
Dave, that what I did, drove to the tip with a bootful of rubbish but the tip was closed becuase they had no grit to put down! Had to find a skip and to a bit of flytipping.
I dont mind going to the tip, but i pay specifically for refuse collection. As it is our bins are now only collected fortnightly, and after not coming on Tuesday (no snow until evening) the council here now say that they will collect bags left alongside bins at the next normal collection date. Thats nice. Where do i put a months worth of rubbish? Cant wait until our new baby arrives and we have to store manky nappies somewhere too...
It wouldnt be so frustrating if this wasnt one of the services used to justify council tax. i look forward to my little refund 😈
I believe that they're called "contracts" now
our lot are all still council employees
Where do i put a months worth of rubbish?
I believe there's a lot of school playgrounds not being used at the moment - either due to closures or H&S issues
our lot are all still council employees
What, even "the bus station staff" ? Your local councils needs to get all it's services privatised, and get the ol', "making lots of profit" motivation behind the "services". You know it makes sense......
The teachers should be out collecting the bins! Uplink, you want me to pick yours up on my way past?
No bus station, I'm afraid
the buses went to arriva years ago but all the works staff are still council employees AFAIK
Uplink, you want me to pick yours up on my way past?
spooky that Mike - I was just thinking that they weren't coming but I can hear them now
Go to work, employ folk, generate business, pay taxes, pay council every penny they ask of me.......................and then empty my own bins, well I guess that's right for this wonderful broken Britain we live in.
If the bin lorry even tries to get here tomorrow i'll be complaining. Way too dangerous to try.
I was just thinking that they weren't coming but I can hear them now
Ours were taken on the normal day too, despite 20 days of snow and ice and three bank holidays. I do wish people would stick to the stereotypes!
the odd thing is that it varies between areas. driving home from work yesterday i followed a bin lorry, but the day before in better weather it wasnt deemed ok in my area.
The day after my bins were not collected, i encountered a double decker bus and a couple of feed lorries on the same roads. It's alright for them to get through...
Ours were taken on the normal day too
Yep, mine too.
In fact, I don't why, but they appear to have emptied our bins slightly earlier than usual. When I looked out at 7am on wed morning before deciding that there was too much snow to bother going to work, I noticed that the bins had been emptied - usually they are emptied at about 8am.
Maybe they started work early as they knew the snow would slow them down throughout the day ? Got no idea how they managed with their lorry mind - we're on a steep hill and most cars struggle in the snow.
When I looked out at 7am on wed morning before deciding that there was too much snow to bother going to work
I didn't know you were a teacher?
Bury bags in snow drift. Sorted
I didn't know you were a teacher?
he said he looked out at 7 not 10 😉
I am a council worker and our office is full not one single person absent today, and as you may note from my earlyer thread I had a hell of a journey to get in this morning
I didn't know you were a teacher?
Hehe.....no, my job is nowhere as challenging as trying to drum information into a bunch of ignorant, lippy, and uninterested brats.
It was more a case of snow covered scaffolding and power tools, and timber stacks frozen together and buried in snow, after a treacherous road journey, not sounding particularly appealing. Don't get paid though.
Tax payers pay my wages too, but I'm expected to take annual leave if I can't get in because of the weather. Actually not expected, I have to take it as leave or not get paid.
I have to take it as leave or not get paid.
So you're not getting paid for staying at home because of the snow then - you're getting paid for being on holiday. Which makes the thread title and the OP, a false statement.
From some of the threads on here Kato I reckon that the many STW contributors would rather you and you colleages never went into work. 😉
With Hartlepool Borough Council you can have upto 6 months in the year off sick without it being questioned or investigated!
Now that thakes the p1ss
Yeah, and there's loads of us on here too Edukator 😉
With Hartlepool Borough Council you can have upto 6 months in the year off sick without it being questioned or investigated! Now that takes the p1ss
Not that I believe that statement for one moment, but surely it's the residents of Hartlepool who started the p1ss taking - when they elected a monkey as mayor ?
the woman next door works in a council office at the bottom of our hill, 5 min walk at most, she hasnt been in to work for 3 days cos of snow, you can nearly see her office from my garden.
Electing a monkey mayor is progress for Hartlepudlians ernie.
6" snow yesterday morning but bin emptied (privatised) we're on a main rd - truck tried to turn up side rd but too many abandoned cars
local guys(and gals) that empty public bins / litter / sort other stuff are all out gritting pavements and clearing snow in shopping areas
judging by the moans from the STW massive about cold and hands and feet i imagine the consensus will be that a short working day would be in order?
