If I had a few old Canon lenses, from the late nineties/early noughties, from my lovely old EOS1, would they work on one of these newfangled digimabobs?
I have my old camera and a few lenses sitting around, sadly no longer used since I got a digi-point-and-shoot, but I might just have a reason to invest in a shiny new SLR, which really ought to be digital. I plan to use my Olympus OM10 for b&w on film until it dies, so this would be for colour stuff, and things for photo shopping.
Ta in advance.
That's a non-trivial answer. Hang on.

I don't think there's any issue with the lenses working, they just won't have the same features.
If the mount is correct then yes they do work - I have tried myself. A 50mm won't be quite a 50mm though because the internals of the camera are slightly different.
I'm misremembering. You're right.
The film EOS lenses (EF lenses) will work on a digital EOS. Older FD lenses largely won't. But that isn't what the OP said.
(Note to self: read the OP before replying.)

Yep; most Canon dSLRs have a 1.6x crop factor (ie the sensor is smaller than a film camera). So a 35mm EF lens will be closer to a 55mm lens on an APS-C format Canon dSLR.
I've got loads of older EOS lenses and some of them like the 50mm Mk1 sell for more money second hand than buying one new!
Good luck, stick a thread up on here and I'm sure we'll tell you all about the strengths and weakneses of the camera of your choosing.
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough! Evening in Cask.....! 🙂
The lenses are all EOS spec, and all Canon. Looks like they might be good.
My thanks as ever, and my continued amazement at the power of the HiveMind!
