Heh, I watched the TED talk last night by the guy who wrote Information is Beautiful. Well worth watching, it's on YouTube.

Humans haven't bin to the bottom of the Marianas Trench, have they???

35,800 feet: Depth of the deepest manned dive. Jacques Piccard and US Navy lieutenant Don Walsh visited the Mariana Trench in the submersible Trieste on January 23, 1960. Through their porthole, Piccard and Walsh reportedly observed an animal resembling a type of flatfish that was about a foot long. The Japan Marine Science and Technology Center revisited the site with an ROV in 1995, setting a new official unmanned submersible depth record.

I couldn't get "Labour's Spending Record" to enlarged to a readable size - is there another source which does it ?

Although I did get this one from the same source to enlarge :

Which was nice.

Glad you like it. The self portrait thing was from a project involving skateboarders in Newcastle. We wanted to understand how they used the city so got them to map where they went. The maps included loads of self portraits. More here if you're interested in the project, the maps are here, and our interpretation of the Newcastle skate scene is here.

A bigger version of Labour's spending record is here. It has just been published in a journal which is nice 😀

I know. I was emulating the Death and Taxes chart on the US budget as an exercise rather than trying to communicate the figures in a parsimonious way. That said, only people into stats mention the use of pie charts (and i agree they are evil). The bigger criticism is the use of circles which can visually distort numbers when attempting to make comparison. Hence the use of rectangles in the other one.
