My Sony Ericsson (C902) plays mp3 and m4a file types - you should be able either just to copy m4a files from iTunes to your phone or convert files (even from videos, using DVDVideosoft's applications) to mp3 format and then copy them to your phone.
Then go play them: phone shops sell Sony Ericsson to 3.5mm jack plug converters so that you can use your favourite headphones as well...

Cheers but how do I do that then?
Connect your phone to your computer using the phone-to-USB lead which should have been supplied with the phone and select file transfer / mass transfer mode, then use Windows Explorer to copy files to your phone.
I have created folders on my phone for specific albums (works exactly the same way as creating folders on the computer) and then created playlists on my phone to listen to what I want...
If you want to convert music DVDs to mp3 format Google for DVDVideoSoft, download their application(s) and create mp3s from videos. THe application is pretty user-friendly.
Depending on the storage capacity of your phone you might want to buy a large capacity storage card: I paid < £10 for an 8gb card for mine from Amazon - I think the format is MicroSD, but do check before you buy!

Thanks for the help on this and you must think I a right thicko.
I have been able to connect my phone to the pc and the i get a menu (phone mode, media trs, print and mass storage) in the past i have pressed media trs which them brings up a notice saying portable device, 3 menus then come up (1) Open device to view file using windows explorer, (2) sync digital media files to the device using windows media player and the last do nothing.
again in the past i have used option (1), which works and i see the cd i have etc, but now i want to put albums and potcasts from my itunes account onto my phone and that is where i'm having the problem.
hope you undestand where i coming from.
Hmm, Sony Ericssons generally play AAC as well as MP3 files, so it shouldn't matter how you ripped your music into iTunes, so it's just a question of determining where audio files are stored on the phone, or whatever flash card such things go, then all you should need to do is select the tracks you want and drag-n-drop them into the relevant folder. That's what I did with my old N95, using an 8Gb Micro SDHC. You could set up a play list of all the tracks you want then drag the lot into the music folder.
Any joy using mass storage?
As I know, iTunes music files have DRM license protection that prevent users playing itunes tracks on other non-apple devices like many mobile phones, portable players, etc, so if you want to put itunes files on your Sony Erisscon, you may need to drm converter to remove drm from itunes and convert itunes to sony Erisscon compatible formats, I use Daniusoft Media Converter Pro, it works great and have had no issues, hope it helps:)

Nope that is not and never has been true. Music purchased from iTunes used to have DRM loaded on it but that is no longer the case and non DRM is available. There also used to be (and may still be) a limit as to the number of devices that a track could simultaneously be synced in iTunes. Five I think it was. When you reached the limit you just needed to de authorise a divice if you wanted to use another.
Guys, thanks for all your help, I have now done it,
itunes on my mobile, yer!!!
