Anyone able to advise about this? I bought a child car seat that developed a fault 6 months later. It has been returned to the retailer for repair or replacement. They state they are unable to do either and have offered a refund of store credit. The seat was purchased in a sale and they still sell the same seat (though it's now the current model year which is a different colour and is about £80 more than I paid) they say this isn't the same seat and won't replace the faulty one.

Is it acceptable to refuse to replace it?
Can the refund be in store credit, I would like my money back as I can buy the same seat for much cheaper elsewhere but they are refusing to do so and insist I use the store credit to purchase a replacement and pay the difference.
If they were to offer should any replacement be like for like?

Thanks for any advice.

The refund can be legal - if the cost of repair or replacement is too high. However this must be in cash for a fault under consumer protection act ie for a piece of faulty merchandise

Whilst we’re still in it, I’m pretty sure EU consumer rights mean that for 2 years you’re entitled to repair, replacement or reimbursement if you buy a product that develops a fault or doesn’t work as advertised. So if they can’t repair or replace it then you can insist on a refund.

Thanks, I'm happy enough to be refunded if they can't/won't fix or replace but I don't want store credit. TJ's link seems to say that the can't make me take the credit/vouchers so hopefully they will see sense and just refund my payment method.
