I've heard various stories about how this may, or may not be possible. I'm sure someone on this font of all knowledge knows. Is it possible to connect a 3G dongle to a Nexus 7 without rooting it?

if you have actually done this successfully then please tell which network you are using.

PPPWidget and a OTG cable should do it

Give it a go, it'll only cost a couple of quid to try

I thought that you had to root your device to use PPP.

Sounds like a lot of faff. I'd stick the dongle's SIM into something that could act as a wireless hotspot, like most phones made in the last few years, or one of those FeeFiFoFum things.
