Been asked to submit video in .mpv format, but can't find a converter which will turn my factory fresh mp4s to this.
Am I just being dense, or missing something about this file extension?
I remember when it was all green fields, .avi and .mov ...
Handbrake is the normal answer to video conversion questions, will that not do it?
edit: MPV format? do you mean m4v?
edit 2 - does this help?
Why does HandBrake save mp4 as m4v?
MP4 vs M4V. For MP4 files, HandBrake will automatically use the extension M4V when you pass-through audio (AC3), use SRT subtitles or have chapter markers enabled. You can simply change the file extension between .
result from searching google for "mp4 to mpv"
This is what is confusing me - the request is definitely 'MPV'. Looking that up suggests it's a file extension associated with mpeg, but seems like an unusual one to choose unless you're using some archaic video viewing software, but then mpeg would be fine as well.
Will look at handbrake. I suspect there has been some miscommunication somewhere.
VLC media player works well for me.
Typo on their part? Why can't they just use an industry standard format?
Quite possibly. Handbrake/VLC Player not offering that as an option, I suspect it will be M4V or MP4 they want...
I'll send it to them on a betamax tape if they're not careful.
70mm film or GTFO
Just asking for .mpv is an incomplete specification.
They probably want a raw mpeg2 stream that is not muxed with any audio or in a file wrapper, m2v essentially. But it could potentially be m4v as well.
What Twisty said; that's just weird. Asked by whom?
Email them back asking why. I'd guess either someone's made a mistake or there's a better way of doing it.
I used to design telecine and hi Res film scanners. That 70mm got me all misty eyed. So fabulously expensive and indulgent.
Asked by whom?
Uni, so opportunity for weirdness is there.
Have queried it, will probably bung them something compatible with Windows Media Player and they can be astounded when it opens.
Try just changing the extension to mp4.
There are lots of interpretations of mp4 and several file structure implementations of the same thing.
