My old man, in a bid to help with the housework, has hoovered to death the lead between his router and PC.

His options are.

1) Wireless

2) Those things that you plug into a socket* and transmit data through your ring main.

*I am not a trained IT professional.

Router is a SKY one. So what wireless or socket thingies does he need?

Chumps at PC World have sold him a mobile broadband data dongle. 😕

Assuming the router and PC are near each other, as he mullered the connecting ethernet cable. Can he not just buy another ethernet cable?

Can he not buy another CAT5 cable?

No, it would mean taking up loads of carpets to replace it.

Assuming the router and PC are near each other

Couldn't be further apart.

I did edit, as assumed they were in close proximity, but gotcha.

Buy these: Amazon linky.

new lead to go between pc and router ?

if you mean cat5 ethernet cable it'll be a couple of quid on amazon

If you want "those things...", try here, they're the cheapest I've seen recently and deliver nice & quick. I've got solwise ones, which are gud

Was just going to write the same as Jamie. Cheapest solution is to buy another Ethernet cable (assuming that is what in use). If so you need a straight thru Ethernet cable which is the more common one so should be available at PC world.

(the other type of Ethernet cable is a cross over - you don't want this).

Wireless may be an option but -

1) is the PC wireless capable ? Any modernish PC should be

2) is the SKY router wireless capable ?

2. They work just fine, been using a pair for a couple of years without a hitch. Mine came free with BT home hub.

These plug things... Is it just a case of Ethernet either end from plugs to device and away you go?

Yep. Far easier than you expect it's gonna be.

Somewhat unorthodox, but sure, why not.
