So it seems they only last around 1 year but just wondered if anyone else experiences the same.
Go to cast to the tv, chromecast not available. If I go into YouTube, then try to cast, the chromecast then kicks into life. If it doesn’t I need to reboot my phone, back into YouTube, go to cast, then the chromecast will wake up so then I can finally cast from my preferred app.... in this case it was Barnwood Builders on D-Play 🤣
Does that help anyone who also notices they just stop advertising themselves?
I've been severely underwhelmed by mine also, for similar reasons. Say what you like about apple but by contrast AirPlay seems very reliable.
Mine has just worked for years, as have my 2 chromecast audios. Sorry.
I've got 3 Chromecast Audios and an original Chromecast. All probably >5 years old. Never a problem... Except when I've been messing around with the WiFi. You need to make sure you are on the same network, and some dual band setups can be problematic.
I have one of the newer ones. My only observation is that even my wife can get it to work.
Has your router or phone been upgraded? Chromecast works on 2.4 whatsit network but most phones tend to default to the 5 whatsit network so can't then see the Chromecast...
I have two Chromecast's which I've had for around 5 years and not had any issues, they get used daily for YT, Disney or Amazon prime casting.
pretty much faultless for many years
recently if i cast Amazon Prime from Chrome on the laptop, it has a little brain fart between the advert and the programme, sometimes it sorts itself, sometimes i have to close and reopen..
No probs with 2 Chromecasts and 2 Chromecast audios here. Been running them for 4+ years.
Only issue was setting them up on the new network when we switched from Talk Talk to BT recently.
Real ballache, they kept being found, and then disappearing Inthe Home app.
Then I tried my wife's phone, and it was all done in 5 mins 🤷♂️ both Android phones, both about a year old.
Been fine since though.
I have 5 Chromecasts of all versions and all have been pretty faultless in over 5 years.
If I cannot see a particular chromecast at any point the problem has always been with the phone or network.
I think you’ve got a point there, it’s a BT router so I’m going to check the dual band now.
Also come to think of it I bet that BT-WiFi’s enabled too so that’s getting turned off straight away!!
Chromecast TV and Chromecast audio here. Both run on my 5k ssid. I have a seperate 2.4 ssid Only issues I've ever had with them is when I've been buggering about with advanced WiFi settings otherwise they are bombproof. I had wondered about getting an ethernet adaptor for the TV one...but frankly it's not worth it as WiFi performance is so good.
