Mrs Legend says that the Kindle - Lego combo is the only sensible choice

Kindles are fine, if you're happy only having access to books from one source. Amazon does not have everything available from various authors. In order to get hold of books from various authors, I have four ebook apps., because some have DRM that only works with a specific reader.

Can you not use Calibre to get round this or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
I thought Calibre let you use all e book formats on the Kindle?

If not, I'll save the Lego for my 44th.

Cougar, nice try, but I've already got this:

I'm not mixing my toasties at this stage.

... or are capable of installing a free piece of software (Calibre) which can convert all known formats to .mobi

On planet CountZeroWorld, all consumer electronics are made by Apple. Over here on Earth, other products are also pretty good.

I got a Kindle Fire HD after my nexus 7 broke on day one.
I actually quite like it. It does everything I want it to.

The only thing I don't like is it comes with no charger (and phone/USB chargers typically don't put out enough to charge it) and the lock screen contains amazon adverts. And Amazon charging 10 quid to remove them is just taking the piss.

So what you're saying is, buying LotR lego is Hobbit-forming?

(also, five Cougar Points for the classic joke punchline)

Samuri, it'd be a Paperwhite Kindle, not a Fire.
I'm just not sure whether I actually want a tablet or just an ereader.
Already got a Smart phone and a laptop.
And I really, really like LEGO.

Very different things, despite what the Kindle Fire would have you believe.

Tempting, isn't it?

They'll be a cheaper, faster, s****ier tablet out next week, but the LEGO won't be around for ever.

Dem's nice Scalextrixeseses, have fun!

ygm, btw.

Rusty I'm in the middle of the same dilemma - the calibre looks to be the answer but I am going to see whether there are other ones to fiddle with in the shops, I am told that WHSmiths have Kobos...

rather than lego I am having new wellies for puddle guddling

Right.

Went for the Paperwhite.
Tesco have em in at the mo.
Nearly went for the Kobo Glow, but the Kindle just looks like a more substantial piece of kit.
Will be using Calibre to convert none Kindle files.

And the LEGO.

And a painting.
Of Burnley.
It's an abstract, obviously. Got the Singing Ringing Tree on it and everything.
