I have been asked to write and read a bidding prayer at a friends wedding and I am unsure whether to accept. I went to a catholic school (quite some time ago) but I don't consider myself religious - is this important? WTF does one say in a bidding prayer?
i bid you all adieu - in the name of the lord?
thought you were asking for divine help with an ebay auction...
I think you have to say mass like the [url=

I'll give you a fiver for her, take her of yer hand?! Do I hear more?
Amen!
I read the title and thought...eBay 😳
in the Catholic church, the bidding prayers - also known as the intercessions - are your chance to make a specific prayer or request, i.e. something which falls outside the standard order of Mass.
during a normal Mass, typical bidding prayers might include requests to God to help the sick, families under stress, anyone who has recently suffered misfortune, more general supplications for world peace, etc.. So you need to write a thoughtful little prayer - no more than a couple of lines - perhaps asking God to watch over and assist the happy couple in some aspect of their future life together.
I wouldn't worry about not being religious - I'm sure your sentiments are correct. I hope this helps.
I would say that to take an active part in the ceremony while not believing it would be hypocritical. Tell them this and ask if there is some non-religious way you can be involved.
