Thanks to Covid our holiday this year has been spent decorating the living room.

The big TV and Sound Bar are going up next week. What should I christen it with?

Thoughts so far are the opening shots from Top Gun or Star Wars (the proper one).

First person to say Debbie Does Dallas gets 10 minutes on the naughty step and has to sweep up plaster dust.

Not for the kids but the street shootout in Heat would be visually and aurally impressive. Skip the bit where the SAAB 900 Turbo gets ripped up though..sniff.

Similarly, the landing scene from Saving Private Ryan. That would be immersive and horrific.

Any excuse to watch Top Gun as far as I'm concerned!

Star Wars soundtrack at the KO is also awesome, so think you've chosen well.

Gravity, the space film with Sandra Bullock pretty impressive in parts. A bit of war sounds too... Zulu battle scenes, Valkyries / "Charlie don't surf scene" from Apoc Now?

You could just fire up any old shit off Netflix on a hot sunny day with all your doors and windows open at a volume all your neighbours can 'enjoy'. However, I suspect that you are >not< the inconsiderate **** who lives near me.

Anyhoo, opening scene from Baby Driver?

Music: Dead Prez - Hip Hop
Film: The Dark Knight Rises with the plane scene is pretty good or Fury, had my house shaking when I cranked it up to watch!

We christened my old mans set up with this, made my mum run round the room going mental 🙂
When you hear the shell casings hitting the floor behind your shoulder you know you got it set up right.

Christened mine with the big driving scene from 6 underground

Gladiator is good fun.

When I first got a 5:1 surround sound set-up I very much almost shit myself in the opening scene of XXX (Vim Diesel, not some porno) when he was having the shoot-out with the 'James Bond' character - I honestly thought someone was shooting at me from behind LOL!

Hmmm.... shell casings eh?

Maybe the mini-gun scene from Dredd. Or perhaps just all of Dredd.

The audio and visuals at the start of Ad Astra are very good. Pity the film itself is bollocks.

Mad Max Fury Road.

The opening of the 2009 Star Trek remake is pretty spot on, too, and the brilliant Giacchino score (plus a bit of Beastie Boys) gives you a chance to get the neighbour's mantelpiece wobbling.

Terminator 2

My go-to for showing off testing my surround setup is the canal(?) chase scene with Arnie and Whiny on the bike being pursued by Agent Doggett in the truck.

Is that the GnR 'You Could Be Mine' bit of the soundtrack?

Once you've got through that lot, stick on some UHD BBC Attenborough docco on iPlayer, 'specially if you've not had a 4K telly before.

Has to be interstellar, especially with the sub turned up so loud that pictures fall from the wall and books fall from shelves.

No, isn't that when the kids ride away from the "easy money" ATM?

Surprised nobody has mentioned The Matrix, worth it for the lobby scene alone

That's a point. The first two minutes of Swordfish, where the bomb goes off.

Then take the disk out and burn it. It's the only way to be sure.
