I'm not talking about the milf babysitters.
Sexy teachers or saucy Aunts.

I'm on about the sugary delight we'd spaff our pocket money on for a quarter of.

Now sucking on something i'd not sucked on in over 25 years..
Army and Navy sweets.

I used to have Fishermens friends too, even the school bullies left me alone then.

Oh and the tuck shop original WHAM bars...awesome

Jelly tots! Think you can still get them though. Haribo just don't cut it against the old sweets 🙂

At Primary school, we used to get a paper poke of sherbet, on the way home, really showing my age now.

A finger of fudge is just enough to give the kids a treat.

I don't think you hear that little ditty anymore. 😀

And cola bottles covered in something that made us close our eyes, it was that sour...presumably sugar and citric acid. Kola Kubes. Fruit Salad. Black Jacks.

Especially as my mate - who teaches circus skills to kids - is nicknamed fudge...

Back on topic (see what i did there!) how about Nutty Bars? a rod of toffee liberally studded with peanuts - would be an ace trail snack now!

Could not stand parma violets though, bleurrgh!

carlosg, was that what you used the last time you felt like an eight year old? I thought they needed something a little more sophisticated to get them into the transit these days 🙂

WTF! most of the sweets you're all posting up about are still available.

I'd love to get my hands on a Cabana or a splicer and some creamola foam to wash it down with

"Sexy teachers"

That's a whole new thread. Fascinating, but probably a short lived given the current mod regime.

Might need some help on this one....Mumbo Gumbos...I think that's what they were called.

Nobody remembers them that I've spoken to...they were orange with green fizzy bits and they were like Wham bars.

space dust/moon dust was created by my father in law !! along with a host of other things including instant granulated coffee,

may sound like BS but as i've seen the patent for instant granulated coffee on his wall and know he had a house on 'the ridge' in HK until the handover,

I was a member of the curly wurly club.

Anyone else had that luxury?

What year did pink shrimps taste and feel different and rubbisher?

In the late 80's fine. Late 90's hard and tastless.

Didn't come in quarters, but does anyone remember the name of sweet that came in a pouch? Think it was supposed to be chewing tobacco. It was brown sticky strands of something and was lush.

I love curly wurly's but they are a nightmare to eat, the chocolate always falls off and I end up in a right mess. Is there still a curly wurly club sharki? What did you have to do to get into that???!! Eat loads of them?

Are gummy bears still around too? I LOVE gummy bears

That was in the shop we were in with Sharki earlier. It was called "Old Virginia" in this shop. It was made of strands of candied coconut and we used to call it sweet tobacco. This super sweet shop also had clove rock.

Grapefruit Spangles are the ones I miss. The ones that were the colour of toddler snot....

I remember the Victory V factory was in my home town. I just wiki'd it and apparently they are still available via a different manufacturer but unfortunatly no longer contain chloroform or ether. 🙄

Modern Victory Vs are rubbish. They're not as strong and they're smaller. 🙁 The local independent chemist sells them. It also sells tooth-powder and plastic rain bonnets for old ladies to protect their shampoo and sets. They come with a free tartan trolley bag 🙂

coconut boost bars.

+1 on the proper double deckers with the solid base.

Also jelly tots are no longer jelly. They are made from modified starch and no longer have gelatine in them.

Don't waste your pucker on some all day sucker
And don't try a toffee or cream
If you seek perfection in sugar confection
Well there's something new on the scene
A mouth full of cheer
A sweet without peer
A musical morsel supreme!
Toot Sweets!
Toot Sweets!
The candies you whistle, the whistles you eat.
Toot Sweets!
Toot Sweets!
The eatable, tweetable treats!

Irn Bru bars...my teeth are hurting just thinking about them

The 'candy' necklaces with sweets on a bit of elastic were great too, although not so much for eating but for classroom warfare...i could ping them with deadly accuracy

Bar Six anybody? Alternative Kit Kats in reality
Also those dark choc bars with green crystally stringy mint stuff inside - cant remember the name tho' - possibly made by Frys.

And an interesting story for you -
My Dad worked for Trebors when they invented Cool mints. We always had a garage full of sweets and the local kids used to pop in regularly to load up. The Cool Mints went down a storm one weekend with them. On Monday at school half the class were missing. Cool Mints now have a warning about the laxative effect if you eat too many.

Texan Bar.......My Granny worked at the nestle factory in castleford - every Xmas we got a shoe box filled with the 'misshapes'. I remember one year i got a texan bar that was actually 8 or 10 all stuck together with the chocolate on the outside only - must have kept me going until easter.

The bar has taken on legendary satus in the family, growing bigger and tastier with each telling! Also got a pontefract cake the size of a plate once too.

happy days.
