Fairly recently I head a programme on Radio 4 (so it must be true) about childhood memories. One of the experts being interviewed was describing how it is impossible for anyone to have memories from before the age of two. He was very emphatic about this, saying this had been established beyond doubt with empirical evidence.
There are obviously lots of apparent contradictions to this assertation, such as language for example. Can anyone point me in the direction pf the research that supports the assertation including the experimental approach that established it.

Language doesn't form memory as such - ie, if a child of 2 hears a word repeatedly he begins to understand the sound. He doesn't 'remember' individual words and understand them.
