My frames have snapped, and I was thinking about buying a cheap pair of glasses to tide me over until I can arrange a decent set.

Do the high street dealers (Vision Express, Specsavers etc.) sell cheap glasses with 'free' lenses? I know they sell designer frames, and lens upgrades (coated, and thin glass etc.)? What would be a rough cost?

I think I have a fairly strong "long sighted" prescription, so the lenses would be quite thick.

Some Specsavers £25 specs look great.
Some don't.
That includes standard lenses.
Get a plastic frame that isn't massive and it will reduce the thickness.
Free 1.6 coated lens from £69 frame range upward.

Asda, two pairs, with anything you need for under a £100.

Full varifocals and thinning included in that price if you need it

The technology is in the lenses not the frames. Base spec lenses will be thick and have no coatings. You get what you pay for. I'm plus 5, but my lenses are the thinnest I've ever had. The coating is great too.

Buy cheap frames and upgrade the lenses. And always take a spare set if you need them.
