No idea about cheap, but I have an LED Lenser and it's been with me for 8 years. Still on the original pair of batteries! It's also seen me through every music festival I've been to over that time.

I liked it so much, that I bought the missus one for herself after she kept nicking mine.

Fantastic little torch, amazingly bright, very small, and very reliable. I've got three of them, I've used them on my bikes, with a Twofish lock-block, and they're bright enough to ride country lanes at night.
I recommend you get several 14500 Li-ion batteries along with a charger as well, they're 3.7v, and give a brighter light than 1.5v AA's, which will work as well.
Mine are several years old now, and in regular daily use at work for working on machines.

I've got a couple of the ones from surroundedbyhills' link. Didn't expect much at that price but they are extremely bright, seem very well made and at that price are virtually [s]disposable[/s] recyclable - not that either of them have failed in the 6 months I've had them.
