As has been mentioned elsewhere today in this esteemed organ, the term 'Chav' appears to have suddenly been quite popular to describe any number of different demographics around these parts.

so what's your definition of a Chav?

Personally I've no idea anymore, especially since Burberry tried to change their image back to how it used to be, so pointers would be most welcome.

Apparently 'Chav' is the accepted as shortening of Hugo Chavez the controversial South American president...

Young, not someone I'd want as a kid or want my kids to mix with, wasters, oiks.

And no, being working class young doesn't make one a chav, stupid suggestion made on another thread. A great many working class kids are hardworking honest intelligent people.

Anyone who wears sports and leisure wear whilst wearing a cap, hoodie and aviator sunglasses, smoking weed and walking a staffie.
During the day.
Instead of working.
Whilst being a white and talking with an accent more inkeeping with someone with a darker shade of skin.

Any bloke who thinks its acceptable to not only leave the house in tracky bottoms tucked in socks, but then confounds this crime against good taste by constantly having his hand down the front of them

This all stinks a bit of 'social racism'
