Every so often a small dialog box flashes up on my screen in front of my browser window and disappears before I get the chance to read it.

How might I figure out what it is and what's causing it?

Install some kind of process monitor. Immediately after the window has popped up, review the process monitor logs, that might help.

You could also install a screen video application and video your screen for a bit until it happens, then slow mo through the video.

Process monitor logs? They'll log when a process creates a dialog?

Add and Remove programs / Programs and Features (depending on what Windows you have), go through the list and remove all toolbars and junk you might have. Try the above if it still happens.

Already done.

This is my work PC and I need a couple of utils installed on it. I suspect it's one of them. However I would quite like to know what it wants to tell me.

Right click my computer > Manage > Event Viewer.

Take a look through there first and look for any errors from things you wouldn't normally expect to see ๐Ÿ™‚
