We will be in touch
We watched about 10 minutes tonight of the programme we recorded last night. Then I had to turn over.
Intersting enough programme, but it was the constant commentary from Mrs BigJohn next to me (normally a very inclusive and non-judgmental sort) going "That's a man!" "She's not a woman" "Listen to that voice - it's a man" "Look - he's got sideburns - it's a man".
I was a little surprised, and it all got too much to bear. Oh, well, at least I've got the Kate Humble downblouse show to look forward to.
My initial reaction was the same, oh its a man, but I stuck with it and became sympathetic about her and the questions over her gender and the poor treatment she got from the sporting governing bodies and many more like her, glad she is competing again.
I thought that it was a really interesting bit of TV, with great access to Caster, showing her as a really down to earth kid who was being put under enormous pressure from all sides. Her coach and the two lawyers appeared to have her best athletic interests at heart and probably her best general interests.
Found it very interesting and disheartening that the IAAF and the ASA did not seem to be supportive of her at all. But very eye opening when they let her race because they were scared to have to define femininity or masculinity for fear of athletes meeting the criteria.
Also found it really worrying when they mentioned that the IAAF were effectively forcing athletes not to compete for similar reasons.
I was left wondering whether the same circumstances and obstacles would have been faced by an athlete competing for one of the countries with more political power within the IAAF
Fantastic to see her back running at the end, good luck to her
