If you saw a Bonty XXX Carbon Seatpost on Ebay from a Taiwanese seller for £30 would you buy it? (they're £100 elsewhere).

My initial reaction was, no way. Then I looked at the feedback and it's very very positive. Then I sent messages to three people who have bought them from that seller previously asking what they were like and whether they were genuine. Two replied to say that the posts are brilliant. To quote them:

"It's an original, was side by side with one in the dealer shop for Trek and no doubt is original"

"yes, it's perfect. If this was a "replica" they are REALLY good at what they do...but I doubt it"

Would you take a punt?

how many people do you need to say yeah go on before you go and do it?
Customers seem happy. Will a random person on the internet saying yeah or no [ who has not actually bought it ] help you decide?

Actually I thought there may be a person or two who had given this kind of thing a go and might be able to share their experience. I have already decided.

i'm not sure that cycling is a big enough market for fakes to be worthwhile.

Is it nicked stock? Things that are cheap are often too good to be true...

I wonder, there seem to be plenty on Ebay and the sellers are definitely shifting some volume. I expect that most of the genuine articles are manufactured in places like Taiwan so I wonder if they're 'genuine' but unofficial?

That's possible.. No way to know I guess.
