Can someone preferably a car salesmen please put my mind at rest and tell me why i`m going to head into their garage to buy a car just because all the cars on the forecourt have the tailgates open, Why do they do this? Is it hypnotic or something?

We always used to open them in summer and leave the front windows down a bit to let air flow through.

Nothing ruins a test drive quite like the customer sweating like a shop lifter for 20 minutes.

Stops condensation and damp building up in the car when they're parked up on the pitch and not being used.

I can, after 13 years in the industry, say with some confidencethat it's a pathetically old-fashioned attempt by desperate sales managers to make sure that punters know the garage is open, the jobs f@c£&d balloons get put out when the job is officially.......f@c£&d

I like it the old fashion way so you can nose around without having to ask for permission to open it.

Cheers for all replies , will have to assume garages are shut unless the tailgates are open, and looking forward to the next balloon and flag show to make the salesman beg !!!

think you'll find that's a "dealership experience" you are talking about

Dealership experience, thats the new buzz phrase?? ive had a few of them , one at one of the huge car supermarkets, every car priced in £s per week , you had to find the actual price in the small print!! salesman compared every price to pints per week!! how much you looking to borrow sir? nothing I have the cash, youre best keeping your cash use it for something else and taking out our excellent finance, I dont want anything else, hows about meeting halfway , half your cash half finance!!!what car you after sir, was interested in the Shoguns that you have advertised, very wise choice sir considering where you live, cumbria , I beleive they have some horrendous winters up there, I was in Burnley i think about 70 miles awayrom home.Needless to say I went and bought from a dealership from a hassle free guy that i have bought 3 further cars from.
